It uses emulated uPlay, the crack works fine with 1.02, I just tried it.

i needed to deinstall uplay so it uses the emulated one and only then it worked.
So it actually seems to require uplay to be missing.

update doesnt work here too, starts normal uplay. initial release worked, but showed a pop up (login or stay offline) in evey race?!?

yep same here
but you can get through it starting uplay.exe in orbit folder before game's exe

game seems to have some issues with nvidia(should be fixed in new drivers) and problems with multiGPU (SLI,Crossfire,nvidia optimus) - should be fixed in next patch

skidrow version works fine, i just installed following instructions, blocked exes and all is good. don't know wtf people are doing to their computers if they can't get this to work.
the only bug i noticed sometimes at the start of the "race" game starts to stutter, but pausing and resuming seems to fix it.
also, i thought this gold edition included everything? seems like a huge ammount of DLC content from both trials hd and trials evolution is missing. all DLCs combined has more content than base game
EDIT: got my answer after a bit of googling. "The DLC tracks, skill games, and tournaments for the XBLA versions of Trials HD and Trials Evolution will not be present at launch for Trials Evolution: Gold Edition."
i hope they won't dare to charge pc players for DLCs but you never know

When you talk about "legit uplay" you guys created a real empty account? So you used a fake e-mail address box to activate it? I'm currently using the skidrow emulator and had to set compatibility mode for the game to start and now it lags like crazy, unplayable. I would like to try with the original uplay to see if it's faster.

You gotta disable SLI or the game runs like 4 fps!!! I was like wtf!! when I tried it out with sli enabled took forever to load. then I read sli was having problems so I thought I could just set the game to single GPU. still same bad fps. then I disabled SLI and game runs good now. not perfect little stutters here and there but not gamebreaking.

lol for me just the second card doesn't work, but none of such problems..
SLI 
Getting solid 60 at 1080p tho, 70% usage on the card, 17% on cpu

Well i'm 100% sure that your image is a corrupted one, i have had that error before aswell (years back) and NOD32 always poped up at that moment.
So redownload a correct one and you will have no error
