Isn't anything with a brand on it a rip-off? Looks good.

Well, it is a pre-production model, not sure if it'll get software updates. Not that I really give a shit, it'll get a clean AOSP build from somewhere anyway, fuck MIUI
I'll ask him to check for differences between the two once he gets his retail device though.
Only real downside I see is the lack of a microSD slot, but that's becoming more common anyway unfortunately. But hey, even though it's preproduction, second hand, little bigger than I'd prefer and all that...gifted horse etc.
They do have plans to bring this thing to Europe as well in 2013, so if they keep it priced this competitively that would be fantastic as it might cause the "high-end" brands to reduce their prices. 450 EUR for a One X, 500 EUR for an SGS3 or a retarded 730 for an iPhone 5 (and that's with the One X having 32 instead of 16 GB, as well as a better display than the SGS ). This is almost *half* of the One X.
Edit: in before "LOL YOU BUY ON CONTRACT" - sure, if you want to pay 20-50% total over 2 years. Contracts are just as much of a ripoff, particularly the special iContracts

I've ALWAYS been fond of cloners, because they tend to force manufacturers to actually play ball. The average Joe is going to look at the OneX, see €450, then look at Xiaomi 2 and see €260 and think "Well it does everything the OneX does.. so what the hell... might as well!" -- that should, hopefully, make HTC reevaluate their own pricing. And if not? No harm, it just means more choice for consumers. The lack of an SD slot is a shame and could end up limiting the appeal and use of the device, but pfeh... it's almost half the cost. I'd say that's a small price to pay.
Same with Gameloft, they clone all the big games and it's a two-fold benefit; it shows publishers that certain games are viable on mobile platforms (yay! more games!) and it caters to gamers that want said games which publishers never bother to release (yay! more games) - either way, it works out best for the consumer.

Well not all cloners are worthy, I know you despise Archos (who started out as a cloner) as much as I do
That said, there's also a 32GB version (and you can get a 3000 mAH battery as well), which would be the same as the One X. Not sure what the price on that will be though.

I hate Archos simply due to their shitty build quality (the seventh gen Archos 5 IT feels AWFUL, creaky plastic and spongy unresponsive screen) and lacklustre software support that means only latest devices see updates (the A5IT is still running Android 1.6 .. ONE POINT FUCKING SIX! and Archos have no intention of updating it) --- but still, despite my distaste for the company; I do like that they offer competing products at a significantly cheaper price. Whether I would personally choose that is neither here nor there, just the fact that it IS an option is what I like.

I still don't understand why not all manufactuers include all frequences used by different cell operators. I mean, what the fuck it's gonna cost them to add support to HSDPA 1700 like 50 cent? Would benefit everyone, just like some Nokia phones, N9, N8 have quadband support, pretty much get 3G/4G with every carieer out there

I doubt that xiaomi will get away with their ios cloning in europe. As much as I like miui, it's just an iphone copy and a very user friendly and nice too look at one at that
It's like the best of android and ios in one package. Still went back to cyanogenmod. It's fluid. Always O_O

Want one.
edit, just noticed they are running 'angry birds' miui theme with the 'playground'; I run that on my miui rom, it's a very nice theme that themes the whole rom not just the homescreens, great colouring... anyone running miui should try it.

Yeah, it'll work fine. It does both GSM and CDMA, 850/1900/2100.

So a month and a half has passed; my friend shipped his pre-production model to me about a month ago. No joy, DHL "lost" it. Fortunately for him he sent it insured so he got money back for it, but I do need a new phone now and I don't want to order this one without holding it my hands first
