i never understood the concept of pride about being born in a specific set of coordinates on the planet.
i can understand being proud of own achievements or even of close family´s achievements, but nothing beyond that.
Me either, I dont get the whole national pride thing.
What piece of land that sticks above sea level I landed on when born doesn't instill in me pride for it.
I might enjoy some things the ruling party of it offers me, or fortunate that it wasn't a worse place. But i'm not 'proud' of it merely because its where I happen to land.
While all true, words change their meanings over time. Fact of the matter is that it's becoming so common its starting to lose its old meaning.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
I know some might find it racist but what about situations when languages do not even have other words, like for example russian or ukranian (ones i can speak for, at least).
In these languages word Negr [negr] which should equal to english Nigger, bears no ill sense at all and simply used to describe person with black skin who's origin can be traced to Africa, and nothing else. Any other alternative would be using exactly "person with black skin, who's origin can be traced to Africa" which is simply inconvenient.
What i am trying to say is the word itself is no malice, what you mean and your intentions are the things that should matter. If you use word to describe your superiority due to color of your skin (no matter what color it is) or origin or religion etc etc it is clearly ill-mannered and shouldn't be tolerated by community. But simply using "negr" is no way an insult in the parts where i live (probably due to lack them here )
What do you mean other words? You do not have other words for "African" or "dark skinned"? Its rather simple, really, if the word "negr" simply describes the skin colour of african people, it has a different meaning than the word "nigger(english)" or "Neger(German)" has in other parts of the world, and thus is not a racist term per se. Until the sixties of the 20th century, and way before that, the words "Nigger" and "Neger", just like "nègre" in french were used and understood in a racist manner. It took us a long time to understand that dark-skinned people really are homo sapiens just like us. Societies have come a long way since the discrimination of African people, it seems the heritage of the glorious colonial times still persists in our language. How long did it take the US to recognize the african descendants even as normal citizens? How long did it take the europeans to get out of Africa and let those people rule themselves. (Technically we are still there destroying their market, controlling and supporting dictatorships, grabbing resources and polluting nature) In France, people of african descendance still have more difficulty of finding a job (with the same qualification) than people of french descendance. Why is that so?
Everyone who has a little understanding of history knows that. Its just that we chose to ignore it because its tedious.

Neger, negre etc are all racist. Good luck saying "Nègre" to a black african in france ... Just as good luck saying "Neger" to a black african in Germany. Tell us how it went
Done that a few times, nothing happened! Then again that was with buddies
They use it far more themselves. If anything it's always in what context you use it. Saying the words always have a racist meaning... bit wrong there.
I had a lot of african and arab friends. (had, since I moved to another country) My nephews are half Nigerian. I hate racist fucks, but that doesn't mean I have to take everything racist or have to go into defence mode on the littlest not political correct joke/statement. Hell I even drop the ball once in a while generalizing a group of people. So maybe ease it down, the radicals will get slapped, don't be the radical on the other side
Tho I gotta say, it's kinda funny to hear people whine on foreigners in my company, once I say: "But I'm a filthy foreigner as well" Suddenly it's different.

Ye i fully aware, i just wanted to tell that in eastern slavonic countries this word has no ill meaning and go-to word here just to describe human who is African descendant.
And do not get me wrong, like every human society, we got racists, skinheads, local nazis, religious zealots and fanatics etc etc who try to prove their superiority to other humans.
That's why i said - not words but intentions and actions matter.
Some of my close friends call me "Inder = indian" thats totally fine. But I wouldn't like strangers to call me that :/ But then again, they don't. Some ignorant people even call me neger tho, but thats the kind of people that say that about every non white person. I would take less offense if I actually was a negro!
So what? Here in The Netherlands we sometimes say neger or black guy to them. What does it matter? I've never someone seem upset about it, and they call us white too.
LOL the bijlmer is full of Turks and Maroks, yeah they might get offended calling them nigger, but those there get offended by virtually everything
Lol, no dude, the bijlmer isnt full of maroks and turks, its full of people from suriname, aruba, the antils and afrika.
Not only, there are aswell quite alot of Turks and Maroks.
But still, saying "Neger" sounds way less offensive to me then calling someone a "Zwarte"...
Saying either of them would piss black people off here...

It's a good thing all those people who have been exposed to racism have a white guy like you to tell them what word sounds offensive

I guess you didn't notice that i said "sounds ..... to ME", thus meaning my own opinion on how it sounds towards me, furthermore i acknowledged that both are offensive in their opinion in the sentence below.
So what's the point of your (like always) pointless comment?
