http://www.ea.com/news/simcity-update-straight-answers-from-lucy

So, could we have built a subset offline mode? Yes. But we rejected that idea because it didn’t fit with our vision. We did not focus on the “single city in isolation” that we have delivered in past SimCities. We recognize that there are fans – people who love the original SimCity – who want that. But we’re also hearing from thousands of people who are playing across regions, trading, communicating and loving the Always-Connected functionality

Do they now just ignore the "OUR SERVERS DO ALL THE CALCULATING SHITS N STUFF" argument after it was pretty much proven to be bullshit?

The point is, the ideas they put into the multiplayer are, actually, good.
Player-city interactivity is not a bad thing.
The problem is that it's forced. People don't like to be forced into doing stuff. That's just the nature of man.
And I don't really see a difference between a person playing a private region and the same guy playing offline. "but the interactivity! The global supply and demand stuff!"
Is that really THAT labour intensive that your own machine can't handle it?

edit:
and straight answers those ain't.

My friend has problems on private session. His cities aren't syncing correctly and with one city build to provide electricity and work and second as bedroom, the bedroom one is on a brink of bankruptcy because the "power" one isn't selling enough power.

I doubt it.
The cities are tiny. People are filling them up before they even get fucking started. Zoomed out, they only barely seem to go just beyond the edges of the average monitors at average resolution.

I'd rather have both options... Hey for just 22 euro's (and possible another free game) I'm not complaining Wink

I'd rather have both options aswell, but as it is right now, you only have one option. And thats the worst of the two for me. Sad

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

It's not bullshit, our pc's simply can't handle the complex traffic simulation routines and control the individual behaviour of up to 1 million sims. That stuff has to be calculated by a massive server farm.

So,

It seems my city hang issue in the NFOHump#3 region was introduced by the last update 1.6.1.
And it seems it is related with 100K+ cities and when messing with commercial ports. Rolling Eyes

Hopefully the final game will have this sorted. Very Happy

Still, bragging about a free game just for having bought this POS, eh human_steelona? Cool Face

There's three decent titles in that list - Deadspace 3, Mass Effect 3, and Battlefield 3.

In any case, it doesn't matter that they're giving any of them away to you for free, as you're going to be forced to buy $50+ in DLC that's not included if you want to experience the full game (at least that holds true for ME3 and BF3) anyway.

Typical EA - offer one hand, open your wallet with the other.

They can take their little cyanide laden olive branch and shove it up their ass.

Anyone didn't see it coming? Absolutely expected result.
This is advertising 101, the hype machine earning it's money. This day and age if you spend enough money on advertisement it will earn you more than spending the money on development. Anyway, the whole pre-order thing is genius...you sell people on dreams and nostalgia and get their money before the reviews come in. Does anything like that exist in any other industry (at least on that scale)?
