This spectacular trainwreck is getting more amazing every minute. Very Happy

Anyone with half a brain would have already known that every single word about server simulation is utter bullshit, but having community confirmation to throw back in their faces is all the more satisfying. Watching EA and their Maxis lapdogs taking it in the ass...feels good man. Very Happy

This wasn’t an ambiguity he further cleared up. It was one that surprised Azzer too. “A thread I made detailing all of the modding work (and clearing up any mis-information too) on the EA forums was deleted within 30 minutes of posting (after 3 pages of replies).” But despite Reynolds’ stating an apparent distinction between hacks and mods, the baby and the bathwater have been thrown out of the EA forums. (You can read Azzer’s deleted thread here.)

“Hours later,” continues Azzer, “a new sticky thread appeared saying no mod talk was allowed any more.” Just how strictly is this being moderated, the modder wondered. So he started a thread titled, “Mods and rockers”, discussing the 1960s British music culture. “Just to see if they were deleting threads without even looking at the content.”

Were they? “It was deleted within thirty seconds of posting. Yes, I was obviously asking for a deletion with that thread title – but I giggled anyway.”

We’d love to put these points to Maxis, and to be able to provide you with their corrections for the above, along with their clarifications and responses, but they’re ignoring us.

RPS, please keep grilling these fuckheads. Very Happy

I retract my words. This game is completely broken. Everything is just smoke and mirrors. Nothing works as intended. It's all fake or really bugged. Nothing like Diablo 3 in that regard.

Dunno if posted, don't read this thread, but: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=50449125&postcount=1

Quote:
kNetDownForceQuitAfterMinutes : 20

For those who are interested, extracted/abridged source code of the always-online: http://pastebin.com/8NR1EdkN

Simply commenting out line# 22 defeats the force disconnect.

So if the game detects you are offline it starts a 20 minute countdown, if you are not online before then it will force you to quit.

Removing this line allows indefinite offline play.

edit I realize it's probably already posted Smile

With shitty "visions" like the one for this game I hope not.

Really? Lucy gives me the same impression as Jen from the IT Crowd. All talk without really understanding herself what is she's saying.

I wonder if the people at Maxis also do practical jokes, like making her believe she broke the internet Very Happy

If they get out and start their own team with another publisher, then they will have redeemed themselves. Right now, this thing stinks to the high heavens of EA meddling. Dumbed down simulation, playdoh graphics, sudden always-online requirement around last March (only startup need before that), etc. Too bad they are most likely heavily reliant on EA financially and it's too risky to go out alone these days.

1. So, always online is DRM, right?
No, no, design decision. It's needed, runs some serious shit on servers your puny PC's cannot handle.

2. Hey, I can't play the game. Servers busy.
Well it's the gamer's fault. If they didn't play the game the manatees we got running our two servers could cope with the load.

3. So hey, I ran it offline. No problems, aside from no saving. Simple mod.
No,no,no. YOU LIE! It's a haeckz! And we don't discuss rumours.
Game is built around online and cannot be played offline without serious changes!

4. But really, just changed 2 lines of code...
NO,NO...I mean, it's part of our vision (and not a requirement, I never said that, even though I did ) to deliver as much buzzwords as humanly possible!
