OK, I've been in Canada for 4 years now and on our cable TV (Eastlink) there are a bunch of US channels as well (FOX, ABC etc.), every once in a while these stations air some rather good movies but they're "EDITED FOR CONTENT AND TIME-COMPRESSED", WTF?
Why the RIAA or whatever don't go after this kind of bullshit? I mean: isn't ALTERING a copyrighted movie on the same plane as DOWNLOADING IT (even worse from my point of view)? How the hell are you going to enjoy a movie if some moron takes out 20 or + minutes off it because there's a boob showing or some "bad guy" swears. And why the hell a "work of art and expression" (despite the quality of the movie) should be EDITED FOR CONTENT? To protect whom? If you are offended by the word FUCK or SHIT or ASS or whatever else, just DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE, dammit  . And if your tv station can only allot 2 hours for a movie, then don't air something that lasts longer than that...  am I the only one that thinks in these terms? Or the North American public really needs to be told what and what not to watch, hear and think about anything?

Worst thing I've ever seen is Boondock Saints on WGN. There was about 20 minutes of content completely gone. It made the movie hard to follow because they were leaving out vital info. Taking out the swearing isnt ridiculous but I must agree it does take away from the film as a whole.
T.V. Sucks in general though. I avoid it aside from some of the usual shows like sportscenter, family guy, etc.

American TV sucks man....they censor everything...I never watch movies on TBS, ABC, NBC, CBS or any other major network or basic channel...american cable channels, with the exception of a few, dont censor.
Try watching movies on CityTV (Channel 7 no matter where u are in canada i think), Bravo, History Channel, Space, Showcase, MuchMoreMusic, CBC and there is one more but I cant remember the name. All the above channels, after 9pm dont censor anything...unless someone call someone a cocksucker or something involving a sexual act on the person, when speaking to someone. But if say they are doing something, say smack their hand with a hammer, and say "fuckin cocksucker that hurt", citytv, bravo, showcase and MMM, history channel and space wont edit it out.
Ever noticed how movies rated 18+ (R) in the USA are like PG13 or 14+ in Canada? On the Edge, 102.1 (in Toronto and surrounding area) they dont edit words like fuck, shit, bitch, ass, dick, cock, pussy...just today i heard pearl jams jeramey...u know the part "Oh I remember, pickin on the boy, he's a harmless little fuck", they dont edit it out. Or when they play that 8mile song, Lose urself...and there's the line "tear this motherfuckin roof off...", they dont edit it out...and Im talking between 5am-4pm, weekdays, all year. In contrast, if u listen to 107.9 (Y108 Hamilton), they bleep that part in the pearl jam song, they censor some parts of What Its Like by ever last...you know the part "...and she swore goddamn if she caught that man, she's cuttin of his balls. She asked for the clinic and got some static walkin through the door, they called her a sinner, they called her a killer and they called her a whore..." - they censor balls and whore on 107.9....
Now put it on 103.3 (if u can get it, u gotta be near lakeshore in Toronto or Mississauga to pick it up, its 103.3 The Edge but its from Downtown Buffalo) - they play alot harder music than they play on the Canadian Eedge, but they censor words like bitch and ass - everything.

I cannot stand the arbitrary mutilation of any work of art because there are some parents that just don't give a "rodent's behind" about what their kids are watching or because some old coot might get offended by a pair of boobs bouncing 'round in a movie (envy?).

I agree with u man, but things are different in europe...europeans are more liberal i'd say when it comes to sex. In canada we are pretty liberal aswell, but have to reach the Topless Sun girls 
Like it or not, if u live on NA, ur country is in some way influenced by the Americans. Canadian and Americans are very similar still, just we are far more liberal, good choice u made when choosing to come to Canada |
