I've played enough now to know the game has no puzzles. What a fucking shame. I dig the game and it's okay the platforming has gone due to the kind of cinematic adventure they wanted it to be, but no puzzles? Why not break the action with a puzzle or two every once in a while?
I'm surprised hump does not complain about this game. Yeah it's lots of fun but it's also the death of Tomb Raider. I'm just glad I'm not a big TR fan or I'd be raging so hard right now.

The game has puzzles.
Spoiler: | Which are offensively easy. |

There are puzzles, but are all self contained to the optional tombs that can be raided in game.

I've raided two (edit: I think three actually) tombs but I don't consider those as puzzles either. No thought, trial and error, planning, etc needed..

TressFX really kills performance... I mean, I can play with it on, but all cutscenes will have some scene with a close-up of Lara and her hair will make the framerate go into lower teens. During gameplay, it's fine, but for now, I'll stick with the normal hair.

I would disagree, there's nothing else to those tombs except figuring the way to reach the relic.
Granted the puzzles aren't particularly taxing and the way they're all optional short puzzles disconnected to the main game is a bit of a cop out.
First tomb raider back on the psx, I was stuck on a puzzle for ages, then ended leaving the game and returning back to it four days later. Something similar in this game just wouldn't work with the context of the rest of this action orientated game.

I would rage but I feel that it's completely pointless, since this is clearly the new direction that will be taken from now on and the old formula will be forgotten..forever. Uncharted is the new Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider is the new Uncharted, sadly we have to deal with that. It's all about the narrative, the viscerality, sometimes there’s no indication when the game is in control or you are...I feel like a puppet.
I do enjoy the game for what it is but I reckon that it's almost insulting at times, since in order to not break the flow there's a concrete lack of mental challenge. You aren't supposed to think here, just jump, shoot and set stuff on fire. Damn, it could have been much more.

It's a reboot, we have no right to be enraged |
Did you buy it? Oh wait. Let's try this again.
Can you do better? You don't have the legal right to complain

the mp is rather disappointing, even though I'm still getting some fun out of it. They could have really developed that part into something more then just slants on existing team battle modes. Some sort of drop in, drop out sandbox that makes use of the main games map and numerous locations maybe.
used to enjoy quick time events in games too, they were a nice distraction from the main game-play, a chance to get a nice looking interactive cut-scene that moves the story along. When they are overused though it's just lazy game making. An excuse to string together one flashy cut-scene after another and then call it a game. It's simple and accessible but interaction is so minimal that you'll soon get bored of it, gamers want to game not to watch and be instructed I figure.

Plus I didn't play much of the old TR games (except underworld) so it doesn't bother me, I could understand how some fans could be pissed off though because it happens to games I like all the time
But no matter what, there's always a reason someone will come up with for sell out devs to ruin something
From what I did play I did like, it's much better than other 3rd person action games like Assassins Creed since the combat requires more than a single brain cell, plus it has manual aim |
On normal combat is a joke. Then again I couldn't care less about combat (which is the reason I didn't select a higher difficulty). Then again (x2) there's no platforming or puzzles to be had so there's nothing actually challenging in this game.
I am often confused and unsure whether I have control over the character or Lara moves on her own during a setpiece.
Once I finish it I doubt I'll rate it higher than 6/10. The so much hated Gears of War has more and better gameplay than this tbh.

+1, no epic moments, no mysteries, no epic large tombs like in previous tr games, tombs are ridicuosly short and when you pass tomb after 20 seconds you get salvage for upgrading weapons, then borfest with liting torches to lit up nets to pick up salvage, i did not ask myself once where i need to jump\go now, in tr underworld i stuck after half hour many times, no challenge in tr 2013, but ending and last half hour was really great.
