This is probably one of the most fun I've had playing a kart racer on PC. Also the first page of the thread makes this game look awful, it DOES have online, DOES support the wireless 360 pad and looks/runs fine... Probably going to buy when it goes on sale.

So I completed campaign with all races on three star difficulty. Time trials weren't that much of a problem, but normal weapon races were often a matter of luck, so I've no patience to go for four star difficulty, I'm just wondering if there is any prize for doing everything on that difficulty?

Luck? Some of them are extremely hard because the tracks are hard but it still comes down to hitting as many boosts as you can (and powersliding between them for an extra boost as well as doing stunts for boosts) and choosing your moments to fire wisely. The only part that really comes down to luck is getting the right powerups, but even then all of them are good enough to take out whatever is in front of you and move up a place Smile

Offcourse it's down to luck. Skill matters, but in getting gold on later races you also need luck. I can gold time attack without many problems, but when it comes to races I really need good luck with AI. If I get shot in last lap it's usually all over, and getting to the front from last place also requires more luck than skill. All thanks to super accurate AI and a big delay difference when getting shot between you and AI. It goes both ways also, I've won plenty of races, when I was in lost situation, but found all star at right time.

thats the nature of the genre though. you can't expect a kart racer to be like f1, where pole position and the car are half the race. the dynamic of gameplay pretty much requires that you always have a chance to lose or win, no matter how long you were in the lead or how well you drove.

wish we could have hump races Sad

Yea, I know that perfectly well, I'm just saying that I've no will to go for four star. Besides that the game is just great, best in genre since Diddy Kong Racing.

I agree. I feel like I've been waiting for years for some proper competition to Mario Kart and this is it. I love the tie-in with TF2. Not the biggest fan of the flying parts, but whatever. I was pleasantly surprised by this game.

For me those are the parts I love the most, it reminds me of SkyDrift which was also awesome. What I dislike the most about Sega Racing is the water sections, heh... I was never much into Wave Racer and those like it.

Some of the 3-star races are infuriating though, I was playing this for 5 hours last night and having a blast - but man, my hands were like gnarled old man's hands by the end of it, concentrating so hard on beating the obviously cheating AI Laughing

I actually sank over 40 hours into this (if I remember right that is) without even realizing. This is a fucking arcade racer, not all the bullshit "fine, I'm not a simulator, I'm more of an arcade racer... No, you're not, you're just terrible!" games we keep getting when it comes to this genre. About half of that time was spent playing with my sister in splitscreen. She was ok on easy and normal, but anything more than that and it was just too much, hehe. That's why I spent the other time playing it alone because I was so determined getting all those stars! And I did that! The only things I haven't done were the time trials (I did do some of them though) and unlocking all those stickers.

Aye, I'm determined to get the stars and the characters.. but that's it. None of that time-trial stuff and definitely not playing for the 3000 hours needed to get all the stickers, haha. You're right though mate.. this game is pure arcade and it's pure awesome. It really is just a Sega version of Mario Kart Wii and it's amazing. I can't believe I put it off for so long Sad No Outrun+Metal Sonic DLC though :\

Who is/was your favourite racer? I'm torn between Beat and Amy right now Very Happy Beat has a fantastic car and plane mode, sucks in the water and has lousy top speed, Amy has a fantastic car, average in both water and air, but man she's epic fast and handles wonderfully.

I don't really have a favourite one. I really wanted Shadow to be that one because I used to be a huge fanboy of him when I was a kid, but he has that sluggish tank, haha. He can become quite fast too with the proper mod though. I don't know...Knuckles is the one I played with quite a lot early game, so probably him. I also enjoyed playing with Tails quite a lot and yeah, Amy is really fast! Beat is ok too, but from other games I found Joe Musashi to be quite fast and Alex Kidd. And of course, being a fan of Gilius, I had to play with him, but he's also quite sluggish unfortunately. Sad

Also, I forgot, but I didn't actually level up all characters it seems. I got bored so I had no intention of playing more, especially when I had to play with some characters I didn't really want to play with.
