Now I am in a mood for some Minecraft :d
1.4.7 is newest right ?
I want to just play some survival mode and build fortress and explore... I know how to play it etc, Becase I played version 1.1 to death almost year ago.
What mods do I need? Especially graphical mods. suggestions?
edit:... what was the name of that must have mod which added options and performance? I remember playing with it year ago... Playin minecraft looks bad... and I can see through floor with far distance
edit2: got it. optifine

nice shadows on the shaders, could never get them to look sharp, but i tried them ages ago... shame FTB does not have much plugin support running off std minecraft as it does.. its a good option to normal tekkit, direwolf20/FTB is rather nice.

Ok ill rephrase a little.
The Voltz mod pack is a mod pack that is like Tekkit, but simpler. It basically adds electricity to Minecraft, and also some bombs.
Its not much more than that.

It's is very suitable for warfare between groups and the whole package adds quite a lot without perpetuum mobiles or indefinite energy possible with Tekkit. Although last version had a very easy to find dupe bug.

Edit: Hmm in English it is called perpetuum motion apparently.

Yesterday I finished exams and next week we start the next semester :S
Me and a friend want to play the game for a week.. Is it possible to play it online with each other without spending 20$ each to play the game just for 1 week?

Yeah, get some cracked version and the server. The server doesn't feature any copy protection. The only thing you need to do is set in the ini the online mode to false, so that it doesn't authenticate your accounts against mojang.
Then just enter the ip of the guy who runs the server and have fun together

The only trouble with FTB type server is the lack of protection.. you can pretty much bypass everything and god mode is doable, you cant move ur stuck in one spot but u still wont die while standing there.
Somehow I dont see all the nfohump community going legit

TSR69 wrote: | Hmm okey would you be interested in doing Voltz then? Let's say old-timers versus Padawans or so? |
I would recommend for first set of plugins:
Essentials, Essentials Anti-Build, EssentailsChat, Essentials Protect, Essentails Spawn,
Essentials Group Manager (or) Permissionsex, No Cheat Plus, Maybe Factions, Autosave World, and Simple Afk.
Also something for sethome/spawn etc
Whitelist the server of course and get the config sorted
factions though in pvp server would be interesting on the hump You can see an armada titled "leosatans" right now can't you

Hmm have been playing with it for a couple of days. Lotsa went wrong, 1st the Technic Launcher started borging. If you have problems installing Tekkit classic like me or the Voltz pack here is a solution (for error: Update failed):
- Close the launcher, go to your user profile (Win7): Something like C:\Users\[your Windows login name]\AppData\Roaming\.techniclauncher
- Delete the folder for the corresponding pack (Tekkit = technicssp these days and Voltz = voltz).
- Empty the cache folder
- Download the used Minecraft version (1.2.5 for Tekkit Classic, 1.4.7 for Voltz):
Voltz: http://assets.minecraft.net/1_4_7/minecraft.jar
Tekkit Classic: http://assets.minecraft.net/1_2_5/minecraft.jar
You can find all versions there btw.
- Rename that file to minecraft_1.2.5.jar for Tekkit Classic or minecraft_1.4.7.jar for Voltz and place it in the aforementioned cache folder.
- Restart the launcher, hopefully installing goes smooth now.
This will prolly raise issues with other (custom) packs though. Edit: But you will get those prolly anyway since the Technic launcher is borged.
After that I managed to get Voltz running on my rented server but the recommended version 1.0.11 creates a very wrong ore spawn. Some ores were just completely missing. Took me a while to figure that out, was playing in survival mode with normal difficulty. Okay upgraded to 1.0.12, world ore spawn seems okay... But several hours later still hadn't found a diamond (they are there but very rare). This is intended I think. You need diamonds and other uncommon or rare goodies for the endgame stuff, but it is really hard to get those. I mean it costs too much time. I guess if a couple of people split into two or more factions to war each other with possible outcome almost total destruction of the world, we don't want to spend months on it. Well it should be possible to change the occurence of the ores before generating the world of course, just haven't figured it out yet how.
But yeah I spend some time (hours) playing Voltz, it's fun! Still some of the mods are quite useless at the moment (Fluid Mechanics) or too bothersome to use (Assembly Line). Maybe those two need to be removed and Buildcraft, Redstone and Redpower need to be added. Will try to get those mods mentioned by Moose installed with Forgebukkit (or BukkitForge?), after that I will post the login details. Also thinking about creating a new mod pack myself.

A little update about my plans to host a Voltz server. Having played on several existing servers I have come to the conclusion that it needs a very secure set-up from the start. There are some people out there who just love to nuke a server. Not using nukes but some flaws in the mods so the server runs out of memory and crashes, restarts and crashes... Some items will have to be banned like the faulty 60/120/240 Volt transformers of Electrical Expansion.
Have been playing with CraftBukkit, it nicely allows to load a whole bunch of Bukkit plugins. My provider has a nice MCMyAdmin tool so installing the plugins is a piece of cake. Configuring it will take more time. And yeah I am pretty sure I will create my own mod package. Swapping probably Fluid Mechanics (only water pumping works) and Assembly Line for some parts of RedPower 2.0. Hmmz going to be a lot of testing and still not sure if I should wait till the essential mods of Universal Electricity are ready for MC 1.5.1.
About cheating the X-ray mod doesn't work yet with Voltz AFAIK, but there is an easier way using X-ray textures packs, wonderful. :/ Anyone knows some kind of strategy against that? I am sure as hell not going to babysit a server 24/7.
Edit: Never mind, I see that Orebfuscator also works versus cheat texture packs. Hmm that plugin does have quite an impact on a server though (CPU and memory).

nothing works for blocking xray if its coded well. tekkit/ftb/minecrack/std/voltz/ etc all doable, can even fly around and speed walk wtih the no cheat plugin on, you just hit the anti no cheat hack first before you engage ur flying etc. God modes even work, although with most that are coded you get god mode but u cant move while doing so.
you need to play with people you know and be an active admin with invisible tp to watch what people are doing. Hence why servers always asking for such people to become possible mods, you cant watch people on ur own 24/7

http://www.shacknews.com/article/80949/minecraft-kicks-off-dlc-mash-ups-with-mass-effect
Quote: |
We all knew Minecraft was pretty dang big, but when EA teams up to release stuff for your game, that's something else. A smattering of Mass Effect-themed DLC is coming to the dig 'em up's Xbox 360 edition this week, including skins of Mass Effect characters and a high-tech texture set. It's the first of a planned series of "Mash-ups" with other video games.
The Minecraft: Mass Effect Edition will add 36 Mass Effect character skins, including several flavors of Shepard, along with a texture set and UI theme, 22 music tracks from Mass Effect 3, and a save with a recreation of that game's Mars Facility level. Due Wednesday, it'll cost $3.99.
Ubisoft last year put together a Far Cry 3 pack for Minecraft on PC, but that was a small bit of marketing ahead of FC3's launch, and a free release. The Mash-up series seems far more ambitious--and is actual paid DLC. What cross-over would you like to see next?
|
(There's no Minecraft thread in the console section so this get's posted here, not much else to say but version 1.6.2 should be available since a while back.)
