What Gearbox did here is a pretty legitimate business practice.
It might be true that they showed a different "video" about the game but thats something common isnt it?
You see a pretty render trailer and you pre-order without a second thought and you almost know nothing about the game.
Seriously you have no right to complain.
Its common practice why you say?
Do you complain after ordering your food from Mcdonalds because the BigMac doesnt look like the BigMac in the advertisment?
I doubt it.

You expected an Aliens game and you`ve got one.
İf they would have started to rename the trademarked assets in the game (e.g. Alien instead of Aliens and/or Colonel Marine instead of Colonial Marines) to save the licensing costs now that would have been falls advertising and you would have the right to complain.
But still this idea is somehow visionary.
Being on the top of the sale charts and saving licensing costs. A dream come true.

I doubt it. | Showing a cgi trailer and showing actual game footage is different. Gamers know the difference between a cgi trailer and actual game footage. Randy claimed this is what we will get and he lied.

You sure have the right to complaint since you indeed paid for a product, but next time wait for the final product first and be true to yourself, they fucked you this time so don't ever trust them ever again...
Most ppl bitch cuz it's not what they've been promised but as soon as they show a new teaser of a game still in early stages of development they go all nuts with the hype and pre-order something that's coming out in 2 or 3 years, that's why this industry is all fucked up.

Juridically legit and morally/ethically legit are two different things. Customers (in this case gamers) care nothing about juridically legit shenanigans to maximise profit by promising the stars and delivering a turd. That's what's wrong with McDonalds and similar businesses as well. They sell based on false advertising yet get away with it because there are clauses, degrees, precedents and lack of regulation for consumers in favour of the businesses. It's one of the ugly faces of capitalism. Obviously a business that can get away with shenanigans like that will be able to keep people employed and do their part to the BNP and so forth, but the constant disappointments from customers not getting what they thought they paid for is a problem. On the other hand most customers whine but don't do anything about it, ie. they keep eating the junk @ McDonalds or buying games based on hype and fake game play trailers.
The games industry is so twisted now though that if consumers suddenly used their buying power to show what they thought of the shenanigans it's suddenly the piracy that is the issue, legit developer teams are fired, the top management figure out ways to make things even more watered down to capture a bigger audience, kicking the essentially unimportant core audience (the more imaginative/experienced game players with taste and requirements) in the butt.
I've seen claims it has always been like that.. which is a lie. It has slowly progressed into this direction as time has passed, from 8-bit computers/consoles up until today. The games today are basically based on the same ideas C64 programmers invented, just embellished with modern technology, powerful engines and professional designers...

The industry is just playing the market, ie. the customers. It's what they do, it's their business, it's how they make money. The average customer is simply acting on stimuli and desire.

We might not have any legal right to complain, but no law says we can't bitch and moan about it till you get sick of hearing it, no law there to let us trash your stupid remarks and trash shitty games that come out.
On that subject there is nothing you can legally do about it

no , the thing was this game AI was not properly added in the INI files
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=127541833#
not only does it fix the game Clipping-issues but also spawning of alien bots, difficulty , ai of objects , door opening etc ... all this was AI driven and it was ... well not turn on properly to begin with
- improved AI terrain awareness (aliens seems to be more prone to use the ceilings and the wall now)
- improved AI behavior (aliens seem to be less prone to remain "stunned" or get stuck in a bad AI state now)
- improved AI collision behavior (aliens seem to get stuck much less often now)
- improved lipsynching (marines seem to have better lipsync now)
after this ACM runs in 60 fps or more with shader 4.0 in dx10/11 [all light are fixed] with fixed Ai , clippiing etc..

lol that AI thing sounds like total snake oil to me. the guy can barely speak english, and he talks about technical stuff that he doesn't even understand.
u3 engine ini tweaks deal with a lot of stuff, but AI improved with memory cache is just ridiculous.
I could understand if there was an ai section in the ini file with commands like
alien_reaction_time 0.33
and some such, but what this guy is saying is that increasing memory allocation improves AI which makes no sense whatsoever.
ini files can only change stuff that is in the game code and conected to cvars. you can't magically spawn new code by changing cvars.
most u3 engine games have settings like allowdx10 and change sound renderer, but all they do is either nothing, ot crash the game, because the code for those things isn't in the game.

I haven't looked at what is that mod, but I remember some guy in the Rage Steam forums posting shit like "turn cool_graphics_full_of_awesome to 1 it'll make the graphics amazing!!" Meaning he was posting commands that don't exist but sounded cool and claimed they solved all his problems and the graphics turned to awesome.

well if you have ever ini tweaked any u3 engine game, you will see right away that his AI improvement claims are bullshit.

Some UE3 titles do have a DefaultAI.ini or likewise which allows some tampering but it's usually not exposed like that.
(Usually it's minor tweaks, nothing advanced.)

Most other tweaks are fairly minor, enabling DX10/DX11 does nothing as the game code does not have this API supported (This UE3 build supports DX10 though.) and the shaders are missing, if you use a monitoring overlay you should see that it still uses DX9 though it's possible of course that some internal engine behavior is changed by altering that switch. | his tweak was made to enable THIS
