So another Simcity beta event is happenign in a few hours from now...

Apparently the whole game is unlocked and the beta size is gonna be a moster 12GB

And you can only play it for 1 hour Devil Troll

[snip]

No Thanks Jeffery!

I got the same email. Is it a dev build, or will all selected beta participants be able to play with everything unlocked? Both happy and kinda mad at the same time, as I work third shift and I'll wake up just as or shortly after the start time and will only be able to test the game for ~1.5 hours before leaving for work, unless more data is required to be downloaded...

What is all this hate about the game?

I mean.. I sure can hate EA for their pricing tactics on origin... (60 euros for a digital download of a game I can buy for 30 euros in the local store, WTF?) I can also hate EA for how they tend to rip pieces off from games in order to monetize on selling them later separately.

What I cannot hate is what they've done with the game. Every video I've seen shows an awesome game, where you not only get a sandbox, but a sandbox put into a global context that gives you a frame to work in and potential goals to work towards.

Sure maps might not be as large as for say maps of cities XL, but guess what.. just as graphics aren't everything, the same is true for game world size. I rather have a smaller, but more vivid and characteristic world, than a large but hollow and empty one.

Anyway, I pre-ordered my copy for 30 euros and the sales managers of origin can go and fuck themselves with their 59.99 price tag.

When ya get the game, your more than welcome to come team with me and my ST buddies.

Plus getting tired of only seeing you at the company picnics during a game launch, and only knowing you as the nametag "PR spin doctor #6". Not sure if you ever noticed me there, Im the short guy wearing the "SIM CITY RULEZ!" tshirt and the nametag "Simcity PR recovery unit"

Oh it is you, yeah sure I saw you the last time.
I guess you will be at the launch party on the 5th ?
BTW, I love your avatar Mr. Green
And I can't believe I might install Origin, but if it is the case I will join you with pleasure. Wink

Let me take a wild guess, the game will be out on consoles as well? Razz

Hopefully next gen consoles come with 2gig ram so we don't have to worry about tiny maps anymore.

For me, they are tiny, at lest the region I played in the beta. The first moment when you scroll to the edge of the town and realize how small it can grow is pricesless and will surely make you ask yourself "50 Euros for THAT???!!!" Very Happy

People that keep repeating how this is a dumbed down Sim City or a lazily-developed Sim City should be ashamed.

Ocean Quigley ( the producer ) said they had the choice to either go for big and simple or for small and sophisticated.

Don't let the art-style fool you, they redesigned the simulation behind the game from the ground up and its pretty sophisticated, or as they said in interviews, its pretty on-par with more professional simulations.

They are glad this runs on the average machine at all. And it won't be released for consoles either.

And the beta was designed so that you could achieve a moderate amount of stuff because you only had one hour to play. They said the final game is going to be far more challenging.

Add to that the fact that you have regions that support up to 16 cities that all can be made to work together and of course the great works which also require time and effort to be build.

I admit that I'm also concerned how long this game will be able to entertain me. But this wasn't a whole lot different with previous Sim Citys as citys you built usually ended up the same.

But what I'm sure of already is the fact that this certainly won't be a step down, most likely a step up. Hell, even Will Wright said he hasn't had this much fun with a Sim City game in over a decade. He was sick of Sim City before he tried the new one for the first time.

Maps that we have seen so far from beta videos are really a bit small. Again, this might not be that big of an issue, if the various city blocks on a map are really as interconnected as they claim, in fact it might even pose an interesting challenge on how to get the most out of the limited space you have available.

Everyone can build a large city on a huge map. The challenge is building a large, but compact city on a small map.

With that said, I'm fairly certain that there will be larger maps as DLC, or if not that, then through creative users hacking the game files Smile

Talking about DLCs.. I can already imagine what they might be:

expansions -
SimCity: Seasons (logical addition - weather)
SimCity: Metropolis (some regions with larger maps, some features specific to higher population cities)
SimCity: Life of a Sim (integration with the next Sims game)
...

stuff packs -
SimCity: <name your country> style pack (for some easy cash milking the art department)
SimCity: Industrial Stuff (industrial buildings - regions)
SimCity: High Tech Stuff (high tech buildings - regions)
SimCity: Tourism and Stuff (tourist attractions - regions)
SimCity: Recreation and Stuff (parks, cultural buildings, entertainment buildings, etc)
SimCity: Public Transportation Stuff (expands on the public transportation system)
...

The list can go on really. You just have to look at what they do with their other Sim related games to get an idea what's in store for us with SimCity. Smile EA would be dumb not to follow the same pattern that has made them so much money in the past years.

Anyway, have seen about half a dozen hours worth of gameplay videos (which more time that I usually spend on playing some of the crappier titles) and I like what I see so far.

That's not saying they can't shock me.. I've been burned before by game releases and many times by EA. If it would not be for the reasonable price at the local store, I would just skip (or isodemo) this title, as in my opinion no EA game is worth more than 30 euros.

EVER.

Yea well.. I can live without the Eiffel Tower, the Big Ben or the Brandenburg Gate.. the rest is just cosmetic, the buildings around these landmarks will look differently, at least from what I could piece together based on the DLC description.

Its sorta like the stuff packs for the Sims.. there will always be people who are willing to pay money to include the latest IKEA catalog in their game, but the game itself is no less playable if you do not have those.

I guess it sucks if you are suffering from some sort of OCD compelling you to own every possible piece of content for every game you buy.

Nezul wrote:

The digit deluxe costs USD/EUR 80 versus the 60 for the regular edition and to my knowledge contains only the three DLCs as an extra, so its still EUR 6.6 / DLC

Some one has to do something to stop EA with their DLC/micro transactions shit Evil or Very Mad
Or against stupid rich people whom make this system profitable...

BTW I purchased only the base Sims 3 game (yes I know, beat me if you want).
But I yarrrred all the Addons/DLC.
I even have yarrrred over 3 years of in-game store's items which I even didn't take the time to install but I still find the game enjoyable.

Micro transactions were first meant to be on Freetoplay titles, if they are gona to put this on games with 60€ price tag, we have reached the bottom. Sad

The problem is I want this game so bad.
But still, I will take the yarrrrred version (if it will be one) and maybe send a 50€ paycheck directly at Maxis Very Happy

So was rushhour for sc4 Namarie, you could import your sims into sc4 and drive around as them.

I myself aren't too concerned with the visual packs. I don't think many people would be to make them big sellers.

But then again if they do it like the sims, not any of its micro transaction content I ever desired either. Some of the expansions yes. But the core game did what I wanted/needed it to without worrying about "wow limited edtiion blue couch for $5!"

So they can make all the DLC they want, and I can ignore all of it.Just because they make it doesn't mean I have to have it, or want to buy it Very Happy

It's really hard to tell if you've just lost the script or if you're suffering some kind of brain damage.

Pirates will never emulate the server, this game isn't going to be able to be pirated, your attempt to sound like a member of the scene is just sad really, you should try and work another couple "yarrs" into your next post that will really sell it.

Further more where exactly or you going to reach Maxis directly?
They've been completely absorbed by EA. They exist in name only. If you had a time machine, I suppose you could do that.

I kind of doubt we'll see something like that happening thanks to the always online drm, did they mention anything about being mod friendly?

no new news on the map sizes I see.. still hoping they have just been this small because of beta lol

They have said a few times that its being made to support mods down the road. When/how hasnt been disclosed.

A few discussions on how it will work have been tossed around on the dev forums looking for feedback.
One most people seem to like is that when mod support is added, when you create a region you can pick which local mods it needs.
Its then exempt from any leader boards and global trade, as its a custom game, and anyone you invite to join the region will need those same mods.
