You should also make sure it is the boars, coil whine tends to come from yes board but can also be a psu issue.. also make sure its not ur gfx card, had a few die after a while with shitty caps and coils going bad.
oh and im not mistaking it as u wrote.. If you have not had a varying cap and coil issues with gfx cards in the past then you cant really be sure can you?
underload all caps on a board wherever it is will get stressed as more voltage is put in. Get your ear in that case load it up under stresses and listen for it to make sure you can locate it correctly. And also check its not a coil making the noise, its usually coils that whine not caps.. if it is you can put some hot wax on it to shut it up.
there are little tools to poke on caps to silence them to locate such things, but you can just roll up some a4 paper and put it to your ear to locate it
dont rule out caps though, if they are not producing good smoothing or storage of the charge, bad harmonics etc replacing those caps can sort the issue.

Caps or coils that gives certain high pitched (weak) whines on my card within certain frequency/load ranges (usually only benchmarks) are usually not dangerous or will damage the component unless it's very loud and almost makes things vibrate a little (which may cause serious internal oxidation failure sooner or later).
As for moosenoodles suggestion, good luck getting a cap off and soldering on a replacement on modern PC hardware boards (GPU or Motherboard), you need to be pretty skilled with a thin pointed solderer and be extremely careful not to touch any other component/solderpoint/copper line on the board. I'd leave that to the experts or RMA the thing if it really worries you, but unless it's a really serious problem they'll just return it.

I know it doesnt actually do much harm, but it's a little disheartening as it just feels as if it's gunna break. |

| What will be gone, the whine or the card?
But it might not be a bad idea to "force" the card, that way if the coil whine leads to serious issues these will appear sooner and hopefully still within the 2 year warranty.
