It's actually not bad at all. It's not quite there yet, but the point of this tech demo is to demonstrate the graphical part of the engine, not the rest of it. It looks decent, but not as good as Shift. I've driven a few laps to see how the rest of it feels.
I don't agree with ixi though, it's not quite a sim just yet
The tyre model is good, but the actual car and mechanics of it are way off right now. Shifting gears is very slow, much slower than even I do when driving normally, let alone a racing driver. Brake input is tuned way too strong as well, a tap will register as full braking power for much longer than you actually tap - in fact, throttle and brake input is quite laggy. Bit strange, since the steering input is nice and direct
On the other hand, they got some of it spot on already. The Elise is a RWD car, but a strange one. Unlike many other RWD cars, this one actually likes to give you a lot of understeer when you slow down a lot (for those that watch Top Gear, Clarkson criticised the damn thing for it IIRC ). Go in fast, shift down late, get the revs up, and it slides. Hit a curb and you'll lose control. What's wrong there though is that you can go full throttle and keep it under control with just counter steering, whereas it should require managing the throttle as well.
Pretty good though, me likey. Good times ahead for us virtual racers

errr its up to you how fast you shift gears , brake input seems fine fore me, you using a wheel right?

Hehe the tyre model was indeed the thing that impressed me the most, especially how the tires feel somehow "connected" to the road, gaining and losing grip mid corner. It requires time to get used to it, especially if you're looking to achieve a perfectly clean driving. It just feels natural and complex at the same time, an improvement over NKPro, which is perfect
About the level of realism (never had the pleasure to drive a powerful car, so I can't really make comparisons ), the game probably won't reach the same simulative level as RF2 (I tried one of the earlier builds and the physics were already amazingly good and complex), but for me, it's a pleasant 'accessible sim', already more satisfying than Project Cars. It's still early to tell though, but you're damn right, the future is looking good
ver 0.98 is out, with some slight improvement and some new options, like the possibility of change car color.
after 2-3 hours of serious hotlapping I must say it: the engine really kick ass.
I really hope the final version comes with all the proper stuff, like a real whole game, unlike NetKar Pro, for the records.
A nice in-game montage:
"I don't carry a gun. I drive."
edit:
apparently theres gonna be atleast one F1 car in the future of AC:
not from the 2013 season anyway, coz its blocked/already sold by Bernie
the most important thing is that we'll see vintage f1 cars from the 60's and 80's, hopefully also 70's and 90's, anything better then the crappy cars of nowadays

Surely there will be the glorious Lotus 72/Lotus 98T which are incredibly fun to drive. Maybe some vintage Ferrari's too. (I hope)
There is still a way to go.
Cars are cars but environement, physics (like bending wheels in MafiaII) etc

Sin317-"im 31 years old and still surprised at how much shit comes out of my ass actually ..."
SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"

Can't get it to drive.. I can start it, get the video settings and everything but no key on the keyboard makes anything except enable/disable console... So I'm sitting in a Lotus without moving an inch...
And demanding a key from another game to play a tech demo???!

It is quite strange, try to check the controls.ini file from either 'My Documents' or the cfg game folder. Should be like this:
Quote:
[HEADER]
INPUT_METHOD=KEYBOARD
...
[KEYBOARD]
MINIMUM_STEERING=0
STEERING_SPEED=1.15
STEERING_OPPOSITE_DIRECTION_SPEED=2.5
STEER_GAIN=0.18
STEER_RESET_SPEED=1.8
LOOKAHEAD_POINTS=6
GAS=0x26 ; Up
BRAKE=0x28; Down
RIGHT=0x27; Right
LEFT=0x25; Left
GEAR_UP=0x20 ; SPACE KEY
GEAR_DOWN=0xA2; LeftCtrl
I guess it might have something to do with a Swedish Keyboard layout. I'll try a US layout.
EDIT: No go.. and the start button is greyed out.. Only the exit button is coloured. The options and start button doesn't work, nothing works.. I can access the list of icons on the right side but I'm stuck in a non-responsive car.
Q: What kind of platform Assetto Corsa does support?
A: PC Windows Vista, 7, 8. Assetto Corsa will not support nor will be developed for Windows XP, MAC, XBox 360, PS3 and mobile.

Oh noes
Thank god there wont be any console version to dumb down the original version.
Wait, as soon as Kunos is informed about the incredible amount of money that console versions can bring him, AC will be announced for PS360WiiUVita3DSiPad too!
(have a closer look at the flaps indepentently moving, based on the aerodynamic load)
Forza and Gran Turismo? Pfft
Assetto Corsa is where it's at. Maybe the game won't have shiny "nextgen" graphics (still very good looking), but the physics are immensely better than all the other multiplatform driving games around. Can't wait to try the final version.

i'll believe it when i play it. i was let down by pc racing games too many times now. forza makes tremendous improvements with each new version, they just need proper weather and day/night cycles and that's about it. GT is pfft indeed, last game was a huge disappointment.
