Well, they don't have to do much marketing, that takes a lot of resources. Plus they're using Unity, which is perfect (asset store and the like), are a small studio and have more experience overall in making games. Yes, it's still not a large amount of money, but I'm sure they can pull it off.

Dreamfall Chapters will take place over 9 months-1 year with more seasons.
Victory Hotel was the movie Cortez was watching in a theater in TLJ.
Will see more of the zombie-like dreamers in Chapters.
They write the script in English, and it's not done like a typical film script.
The underground troll cave was the first location made in the game, was the prototype.
Sales of Dreamfall were 300K in first year. Sold really well over time. TLJ sold a lot more than 500K.
Theoretically Blind Bob inspired by Terry Pratchett and Discworld.
April was named for the month she was born, it was spring, a new beginning. Zoe's name is also important. Castillo means castle.
Kian is 35.
Male nudity is made AO in USA, for retail. Female nudity is fine, which is totally biased. There was meant to be male nudity for the Guardian.
The Azadi were a reaction to current events, religious fundamentalism, terrorism, cultural divide, Iraq invasion.
Red Thread Games will be making story-driven games.
Casablanca chosen, because of the movie. Essential romance to the place. Idealised, affluent version of future Africa.
Aleksander Grondal is who came up with the playable Spider.
Newport, Venice based on East Village in NY where Ragnar lived and other parts of America.
Gilmore under 20 years old.
Development: Story first, gameplay second. Gameplay has to serve the story.
It was called Stark because of the scientific, hard nature of it. Arcadia is ideal magical fantasy, in Greek means utopia.
Not enough time to put much gameplay in the Swamplands. |

They revealed The Longest Journey Home, to be created if the KS reaches 2 million, is a 2D point and click old school adventure (meaning similar to the original TLJ) that continues the story of April Ryan!!

That would be amazing but those who are interested in the new project have already given their contribute for Dreamfall, so yeah, sadly I don't think it will be doable.
At least the main project looks incredibly good, and that's just from alpha footage.

Hmm, trailer kind of points this installment being about Zoe. Might be wrong, though.

2 million is unlikely at this stage but not impossible...... i do believe however they can reach 1.5-1.75 though.

It will be about Zoe.
TLJ Home will be about April, if it ever happens. They said they wanted two separate games for those two characters because they want to tell the stories in very different ways, and conclude each of them individually.
-------------------
On a different note I don't think they made the right choice with the engine. Unity is easy to use, but something like Unreal would be only slightly harder to use, while offering many benefits. Some of the things I can think of that lack in Unity:
- Morph animations are not supported, and if you try to hack them in the performance loss is pretty immense. This limits their facial animations to bone animations, which generally doesn't look too good. Although with a lot of effort can be made to look decent.
- Lack of a Cinematic editor. They can implement their own, but Unreal comes with a true and tested cinematic editor, which is quite good.
- Unreal Lightmass provides better lightmapping than Beast lightmapping that comes with Unity. It looks better, its easier to use and it runs fast, especially if ran on multiple PCs. Unitys lightmapping can still look good but is generally inferior in my experience.
- And finally, both Unreal and Unity come with a ton of effects out of the box, but Unreal ones look a mile better than Unity ones. Graphically wise it's just a much more advanced engine.
Normally I wouldn't care about most of those things, as gameplay is what matters with most games, however in this case I believe all of those are good reasons to pick Unreal over Unity. Dreamfall was a very cinematic experience after all.
Unity does provide Mac/Linux compatibility out of the box, but I wouldn't think that was their primary reason for choosing it.

I prefer Zoe game, 2d point&click is too old-school to me.

If I am not mistaken they said it's what Blink Studios who is codeveloping the game is familiar with, so that's why they chose Unity. Blink made this PC/Mac/iOS/Android Unity game: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/125646-SKAR-The-Hammer-Returns-Early-Preview
And to be honest, despite the many advantages of Unreal the truth is many games that use it have a "me too" look, one because it's too popular and two because rarely it's modified to a great degree (and would such a small team afford to do it?).

I'm not sure, but:
Is Unity licensing cheaper than Unreal?
If so, then it may also be a factor.

Makes sense.
Licensing might be an issue as well, but I have no clue for how much Unreal license goes for. UDK ("free" version of Unreal) licensing is terrible though, 25% royalties.
I'm sure it's gonna end a up a fine game regardless, but unless Unreal license was too expensive, I wouldn't have chosen Unity if I was in charge. It's not an engine made for cinematic games, I think that's gonna give them some headaches.

Well, Unity Pro costs $1500 for PC, Mac and Linux+acces to code. Yes, $1500, no royalties. Add $3000 for Android Pro and iOS Pro licenses. And it has the Asset Store (and guys like Fargo have shown how well it can be used)
Unreal basic commercial (tools, no code) is $99 + royalties after the product earns more than 50k. And it's Epic that has the say if it's 1 or 30%. Full license costs waaay more, around 70k for basic tools, plugins licensed separately.
This is not supposed to be a breathtakingly good looking game, not with that budget. It will look good, but it's the story I'm looking for.

No source code with Unity either ^^. Asset store is useful for simple projects but for anything medium sized or larger they will want to make their own tools and scripts. Generally asset store is most useful for programmers that need art, or artists that don't know how to program.
But story is what really matters, true.

It would be nice to see them reach 2 million now that they gave some more info on what The Longest Journey Home would be.

There's still paypal. Anyway, it's good 1.5 mil was achieved, Home will be a separate project and I don't really care about mobile versions.
