I dont think they mean HL3 they must mean hl2: aftermath. I seriously dont see source being reworked so soon especially with technology being added to it (HDR lighting for example)

didn't you read what I said? they're upgrading the technology now still so why would they want to re-work it all? Also it's not old and the U3 engine will use much of the same technology.

HL3 isn't even out yet and I don't even know if it's in the work so how can they re-work the game? You're thinking of a HL2 port to Xbox 360 which is not gonna happen since HL2 is coming to the Xbox.
If you hate it, ignore it.

Wasn't Good Ole Gabe having a rant a few days ago on How hard it is to Shift to Multicore Processors and you may as well Start building from the ground up. hence new Engine

Valve made the source engine so it could be contantly upgraded. Theyve already stated theyre building HL3 on source, they just add components to it rather than work from the ground up. Next they add HDR then who knows what it already has a comprehensive physics system, adding new suppourt for the next set of directx (or whatever it is theyre calling the next one) etc etc think of the source engine like a base u can slot and add in various components too. |
thats 100% right, ive been close with the steam dev's since beta, and they obviously have ties with the source dev team. Source will be constantly upgraded, it has all the nescessitys the engine needs to stay alive with the times, Source could be more powerfull then U3 very soon. the hardware market is the only thing slowing valve and the source engine down. the name source is there for a reason, its just that, the source of nextgen games.

Ok let me point this out.. steam devs = 2 or 3 people. No more! All steam is, is a go-between for files. Im not sure how many people worked on steam at first but it has nothing to do with source except for its what distributes it.

Yet Newell Says Publicly There is no point in converting your previous work for Multicore Precessors, best building from the ground up .
So if as the Thread Title Suggests , HL3 For The xbox360 . It can't simply be a Tweaked Source engine then can it. It will have to be a complete New engine.

so what if there's a dual member? it still has nothing to do with it so it's irrelevant to bring it up.

Valve is a very tight knit organization, these people knwo there jobs and they do them. sure HL2 had its delays, but it didnt dissapoint did it? i mean, i dont see 40k plus people playing farcry or doom 3.
if u were along for the ride back in the early PC internet gaming days (quake 1/unreal/daikitana) you'll remember something that was supposed to come out called "powerplay" which is pretty much steam as we know it, Valve has worked hard on steam and source, co-operativley and respectivly. to say both projects have NOTHING to do with eachother is balderdash. Valve does not have a team of 700 korean programmers. Steam was one of valves many sideprojects they worked on when they needed a break from the source engine.
Valve tried something new with steam, and it works. it works well. dont gotta go to the store, HL2 is already sitting at home waiting for you.

Source Being The topic of his post... He Mentions Steam in Passing, He doesn't Exactly Dwell on it.

Irrelevant . Hmm his opinions on Source being Updated Seem to be insignificant because his Post Mentioned the word Steam

i was stoned and exremely bored i just felt like ranting about something, this topic was here, now i kinda wish i was admin so i could delete all the posts hahaha...
now that im semi-sober and looking over your re-evaluation of my thread i have decided it was a huge waste of all our time...
thanks.. asshole.
EITHER WAY. heres my point, the future will come from steam, not from the XBOX, source will simply be ported to xbox, whoo hoo, i still wanna see if the xbox hardware can handle the amazing firepower which is HDR and have it at a playable rate.
lets hope Gabe has something special up his sleeve to really push the source engine and the xbox hardware (even though im dissapointed with the specs so far).
too bad its not coming out for the PS3, Sony's timing and delays fit almost perfectly with valve's, so it would probably work out for the best..
(ps, i got baked and decided to attempt a relevant post)
