					| this is old news. they said they were gonna release the source about a year ago. i'll say what I said back then..... good but it's come a lil bit late, there are better engines around although games like ET live on source and other SDK's are better. | |

it's already out.

also no you can't play quake 3 for free but you can build games from the engine it was built on.

If you've seen what they did to both the quake 1 and quake 2 engine, you would know why many people are exciting this is released. For quake 1 see the famous Tenebrae-engine.

Warren Spector : I never minded piracy. Anyone who minds about piracy is full of shit. Anyone who pirates your game wasn’t going to buy it anyway!

Hideo Kojima: If you want to simply tell a story, you can create a film or write a novel.

Or nexuiz, which has been using the quake 3 maps for a long while, and has been using doom3-looking RTLights etc. If they can do that with quake 1, think of what can be done with quake3!

fear the led zeppelin that was!

You forgot to mention that nexuiz is built on darkplaces which is a 6-year "update" to the quake engine.

					| Doesnt matter much tbh. Would be a whole lot nicer for PC-owners if each engine was released as OS.

   Gaming - Intel Quad Q9450 @ 3.2GHZ | Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB | SB X-Fi | PC6400 8GB | 300GB Velociraptor
 HTPC - Antec Fusion Remote | AMD Athlon 7850 X2 | PC6400 2GB | 74GB Raptor
 Server - Athlon 64 X2 4200+ | Radeon HD 3450 | SB X-Fi | PC5300 2GB | 4TB+ total space

					| Would be nice if EVERYTHING was OS. I blame microsoft, mostly because I don't like reading about it much, so I just continue to be ignorant | |
