Doesn't Dragonborn interfere with mods?

Some "smaller" script conflicts are possible (The unofficial patches encountered one but it's sorted now.) but otherwise it keeps nearly exclusively in it's own territory of Solstheim.
(The Windhelm docks are modified lightly and there's some random encounter setups, Ebony warrior is also in Skyrim and not on Solstheim and some of the new equipment is set up using existing leveled lists so bandit bosses and similar can at times be seen using Nordic Carved Armor, heh.)

If I do not buy dragonborn or dawguard (I'll leech them), will steam download the official HR textures for these DLCs? So can I just download Dawnguard/Dragonborn.bsa/esm and play it with the latest updates for the game and HR packs? Or will steam just ignore the DLCs and not update? |
I have to assume you already have the new high-res pack (3 esp's and 3 bsa's weighing around 4.39 Gb), because it contained some fixes for the textures from the original game, not just the DLCs. So if you have the free high-res DLC on your account it should have downloaded the update automatically. If you don't have it though, I doubt that adding any esm files will change that, since Steam doesn't actually check which plugins you have activated. If the DLC textures are separate downloads, Steam probably checks if the corresponding DLCs are registered on your account.
Update: I checked the insides of the bsa files from the HR pack, it seems that each of the three has a mix of DLC/vanilla game textures. So unless they have different versions of the same pack for the people who have just one DLC, both of them or none of them, you should have the update already.

Ok thanks, Steam did indeed download 4.4GBs of textures. I assume the textures for the DLCs are always included, whether you bought them or not.

Do you guys still use texture packs like Skyrim HD when you have the official one installed?

Yea, at least some months ago, Skyrim HD - 2K Textures was one of the best texture mod.

so we dont really need the texture pacls like SkyrimHD if we hav the official HD texture packs? I take they just overwrite a lot of each other making the use of them both redundant?

That's one of the better for kill-cams, adds some new ones too (Unused files?) and you can fully customize the settings via SkyUI and it's MCM framework.
(Percentage chance for it to trigger, if it only works on the last enemy in a group, chance of the animation being a decapitation - on enemies that support it - and camera perspective.)
Strange thing about that dragon soul absorbing if it still occurs with just the main game and DLC active, odd.

Judging by the comments on the nexus a lot of people seem to be complaining about the unofficial patches (vanilla and DLCs). I'm in doubt whether to use them since once I start playing with these, apparently bug introducing, mods, I can't removethem anymore. Do all of you use these patches?

I had to disable the unofficial patch since it made Breezehome crash.

Thanks, I'll just disable them all before I start.
A question for people who have finished the game with and without SkyRE: How was it? I rarely use such intrusive mods, but this one seems very cool.

Yeah Hearthfire alters (carelessly deletes.) the "navmesh" in Breezerhome (And deletes the cooking pot if I read that correctly.) so any mod that alters that navigation mesh will cause a crash due to it being seen as deleted by the game.
There's no way to restore those at the moment so the unofficial dawnguard patch worked around the issue and they probably did something to the normal unofficial patch as well.
(Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn both delete a bunch of content which is why cleaning them and "undeleting references" with TES5Edit - latest version, .28 or what it's at now - is extremely recommended.)
Also due to the heavy script reliance in the unofficial patches you can get a variety of issues by just disabling them since those scripts are still save-game bound and being called.
(At worst you get a sort of spam which creates new references/form-id's constantly and balloons out the file size by several time, eventually killing the save game completely.)
(And you definitively don't want to disable the DLC themselves, it will give you problems eventually.)
EDIT: Breezerhome?
(I'm getting tired.)
