It's just one of those emails that's supposed to get sent out when your subscription ends, but for some reason they sent it to everyone.

You can still play without a subscription.

Oh nice, a bump for this thread Very Happy

Bought this some days ago and really like the story and quests. They are most of the time pretty interesting and i even watch all the cutscenes or read the texts. Which i do rarely in MMORPGs.

I also like that you need to use your brain on some missions. Like solving puzzles or investigating via the Interet Browser.

VERY GOOD GAME MAN!

How far are you into the game? The difficulty gets pretty brutal, which distracts me from the story.

I also got the same e-mail. It can be a very fun and immersive game, and a frustrating one too (for me). Haven't played in a couple weeks though. I hope they can keep the game going. It's the most non-WoW MMO out there that I know of.

I played for some hours, but am still at the first island, where Kingsmouth is.
I also looked at the forums, and there are some builds with which you can own pretty good solo.
Fist/chaos gets mentioned often for example, because of the self heals.

Yea 1 thing I really don't like about the freedom of skills and no respec means you'll get fucked hard if your build is not especially good at questing. Then you'll need to farm points to get the skills you need for dungeons and questing. I'm at Romania and some of the mobs is ridiculously lame.

They release their games either in beta state or with very little content to begin with, so that 6 months of patching and "support" they give more or less gets the game to where it should have been on release.

I wouldn't call AoC a burn as I enjoyed it, but I definitely got fucked with TSW on release, as the entire Transylvania region (the last 30% of the game) was more or less broken quest wise when I played. They knew it, they released it anyway. Fuck em.

Its true, that Funcom has a habit of releasing their MMO's in beta stage, no doubt. But lets examine why.

All 3 of their mmo's are significantly deeper and more complex then any other AAA mmo out there (combined, if you ask me). They are so much better then any other mmo, because they don't try to appeal to the "casual" crowd (instead, the casual gamer has to say, ok, this interests me, so I am going to make a fucking effort and play it the way its meant to be played.)

With that being said, funcom will stay to its product and fix and balance and add stuff, with dedication nowhere seen else.

Just look at AO, 12 years running, was released bugged as shit (i was there), got fixed and improved and patched and got expansions etc and still does (latest major patch was just applied).

Also FC spearheaded F2P MMO concept with Anarchy Online (i can't think of any other AAA-MMo that had F2P before AO.

So, while funcom maybe (ok, they do) release their games too early, they DO stay by their product and do everything possible to fix and balance it.

SO saying "We've milked this fucker dry, and no longer give a shit. Thank you for your patronage!" is just stupid and apparently very uninformed.

So what you're saying is that because they try to make a more complex game, it's OK for them to sell a beta version and advertise it as final? I do get that they can't advertise it as a WIP, but if their product is not yet really ready then they should hold it off, because if they had more than 1 brain cell they wouldn't repeat the AoC incident... Which they sort of did. Though this is a far better game IMO.

well, the secret world doesn't seem to be released in any bad shape or anything. So i don't see the problem here. Saying that it felt like it lacked content in the end is not a reason for me. Since they keep adding that since the beginning.

That's where it's important to know the crowd. People need things to do, otherwise they wil get bored andl go back to WoW after a few weeks and before their free month is over. WE know it's new, and it's a given that they need time to develop more, but many people don't think rationally like this. What they could have done at least, is have a raid ready at launch and perhaps have some crafting professions. The crafting system is not really sufficient as it is. Interesting, yes, but for a SP game, not for a MMO.

Eh, I've only played AoC out of the 3, but I don't see how it was significantly deeper and more complex than the competition.

Sure, the combat model was a novelty and more involved than the usual hotkey spam, but other than that it was even more shallow and empty than standard WoW clones. Particularly the raid encounters were a joke compared to WoW.

finally decided to give this a go and bought it 2 days ago for 30 bucks. And i am having a blast. Sure, i am only in kingsmouth (some 40ish missions done from the 60 available) but i never had so much fun doing missions. I actually want to listen to what they have to say (or read, but a lot is said hehe). Its refreshingly fun. Also the skill system really grows on you (ofc it starts out simple, but thats in every mmo, every rpg the same).

So far, its a great experience.

Awesome. Yes it has great moments. The story and writing are good, very good for a game. I found TSW punishingly hard though (solo) and the aggro is unmatched also. Does the game drive your GPU fan hard? It really hits my 680 hard and my system wattage is around 430w where in other games it's usually around 330w.

hm, my 560ti runs at 60°C, 82% usage. So all fine there. well, except that it runs 20% under capacity.

Oh and for the difficulty. Combat i am fine, more or less. As long as i don't get clustered with several mobs hehe. And some of the missions are ridiculously hard. But with the ingame browser, its easy to fix when stuck hehe.

I had to buy a new PSU when I started playing this game ^^. After about an hour of play my entire PC would crash badly. It really seems to push the GPU to the limits.

When all else fails, there is one topic on which we completely agree on with Sin. This is that topic.
