Want big maps? Play cities XL Smile

I also doubt that all the agent systems in the game can be run with a million citizens on a mid-range computer any way.

What point? computers much less powerful than these ran simcity for years. EA's utter failure to design a good product isn't a point.

So limit people with mid-range rigs to mid-size maps. No reason to gimp the game for everyone else.

Didn't EA claim no home computer is powerful enough to run all the simulations client side anyway, that's why they have to do it on their servers to try to justify the DRM? So which is it?

My Beta key went in the trash, and if they give me another, that will join it.

They could give away this game for FREE for all I care, but it will not see the light of day on any drive of mine.

Its like buying a car for €50.000 and the producer of said car says: If you wanted a car that goes above 45 kmph you should have bought a different car. Laughing

Guys why arguing about PC power problem to run huge cities.
Pillermann posted the actual reason of limited map size below :

pillermann wrote:

It probably wasn't a design decision, but a necessity once it became apparent that the game has to do server-side calculations but can't handle the load on huge maps. So there we have it, another concession to the online DRM.

It seems that they made game with poor optimization so they can't put big cities.

I think i stick with SimCity 4 Deluxe Wink

Yep, actually the game is very well optimized, I didn't had any glitch with the beta.

The only problem will be EA servers fucking up at launch day Laughing

So is CitiesXL actually good? I seem to remember reading a lot of bad things about it at release (not on this forum though)... Never did give it a try though.

It is still same recycle 2011, 2012 versions, with same bugs etc, just new buildings.

It's pretty meh. You're better off just playing SC4 if you want a decent city builder.

Where? I'd like that list, I've never played Sim City 4 with mods. ^^ But I definitely will now. Very Happy I understand NAM is a must have, already got that one.

Yeah, NAM, SAM, NMW and SPAM are amongst the bigger ones, basically must. Smile There's CAM too but I don't know if it's fully compatible with them (it's been a while since I've played the game). The "IH Missing Jobs Fix mod" is pretty essential as well.

Then there are countless of mini-mods/optional modules-addons that can be added on top of those..for potentially infinite modding possibilities Razz
