Now raise it if it's related to the fact it's a bastardised Neverwinter game with no proper SP component, a shitty D&D ruleset, infested with what can only be described as the type of gameplay targeted towards those with ADHD, and a f2p model where you will most likely be able to (or witness others willing to) pay to win

NWN and NWN2 are magnificent, classics, even D&DO is far more strategic and interesting than what this button mashing cash-sink looks It really does look like Dragon Age 2, only this time you'll be pressed into a constant stream of microtransactions.

Gameplay video for those interested. This was almost unbareable to watch, derped down beyond belief, shallow combat. You're told exactly where to go. I remember the neverwinter nights games with fond memories, this pisses all over them...
Dont mess with God, he can impregnate your girlfriend/wife without taking his pants off!

WTF?! Game without need of thinking? Line on the ground? Why waste time for walking? They could put all people necessary to solve quest in one room.
Future of gaming by Bioware:
"WHEN YOU PRESS A BUTTON, SOMETHING AWESOME HAS TO HAPPEN."
It is the opening of the game, of course it is lineair.
Also, it is not a classis dnd game but an action rpg/mmo.
It could be fun i've they do it right. Just forget that it has a dnd licence and keep an open mind.
Yeah it's the opening of the game, which is supposed to be dumbed down and easy till things pick up in the later levels. That will be the truer test for the game. I thought it looked fun for what it is.
DND sold out when atari got the franchise and is dead for years. I think we have to wait for project enternity for a classic pc fantasy rpg.
Anyway, after watching some videos, the game looks great.
I hate mmo's. but this one seems fine for the looks of it. No (or little) grinding for mobs/ingredients.
The game mixes guild wars 2 combat with swtor questing/dungeons. Should be good enough for one playthrough, at least for me.
Actually - as surprised as I am to say that, since I expected it to be completely shitty from the moment it was changed into an MMO - it doesn't look all that bad. Sure, the combat's different than in any other Neverwinter game, because it's action-oriented... but to be comepletely honest, that's the direction d&d itself took with the 4th edition - it was paced much faster and (even more) heavily oriented towards combat. Sure, there obviously were turns, but if it ever got ported into a computer game, the results wouldn't be THAT much different from what you see here. A bit slower, perhaps, with tab targeting and most abilities available only once/encouter. That's about it. And to be honest, I don't really see it improving the game that much. The mechanics of Neverwinter's combat stay true to the roots - at-will powers become basic attacks, encounter powers require a slightly more tactical aproach because of cooldown and daily, while not really daily, are only usable once every couple of fights. So... yeah, it's d&d, alright (more or less). Just not the d&d many of you remember.
Aside from combat, the game looks quite nice, the atmosphere is there and it would be a pretty typical MMO... if not for two things. One is - the game is an F2P title, and for one of those it really does present itself rather nicely. Second is... the Forge. Server-based editor, giving community the tools to create their own content and add it to the game. Say what you will, but if that one thing is done well enough and gives users enough freedom, Neverwinter might one of better (and most original) MMO's in a couple of years. And one with a potential to never grow completely old and stale, without - at the same time - having to change itself into a boring endgame grindfest.
I think DDO is better than this in almost all aspects, especially when it comes to fidelity towards DnD (I know, right). But if you compare this turd to nwn/2 then it's simply godawful.
Dunno. I only played DDO during a trial and got bored pretty fast.
As far as DnD goes, Neverwinter is pretty close. Stats, feat points and powers of 3 types (at-will, encounter, daily) for every class - exactly like in 4th edition of DnD. Add Tab targeting (so that non-area powers have a fixed target) and global cooldown (to slow the pace), change enounter powers to be... well, per encounter, instead of on a cd and make daily powers usable once/rest and you've got almost a 1:1 copy of the original mechanics. The only thing missing is skills, but they were so streamlined in 4e, that they might just as well be gone. So yea, there are some changes, but they make sense from a video game design perspective.
I'm not saying the game will be great. All I'm saying is that it actually seems pretty close to the lastest DnD ruleset and that playing UGC with friends might be pretty fun, despite the action oriented nature. That's the vibe I get from those two movies, at least.
I can see this being fun with friends much like Guild Wars 2 can be. I hope they make this as easy as Star Trek Online is to make Zen so you can get the paid items without using real money.
