I think the opposite,2 groups have now made an odde optical blu ray drive emulator for ps3. the blu ray drive protection is not gonna be much different on these new consoles. so it will be "hacked" sooner. |
That's not necessarily meaningful at all, for example, they could have protection where the game disc's executable is encrypted and will only run off the HDD which could also be encrypted and the only way to get the executable to the HDD is to enter in your serial number and register online through ps4/xboxlive and then u can play offline etc. Which means hacking the blu ray is useless and you need to delve deeper and hack the other means of protection. My guess is their protection will be good but crackable obviously, the main thing is if they have registration codes for each game that tie to ur account then they will curb 99.999999999% of illegal online players and only single player will work and potentially cracked server players (doubtful). |
duh ofcourse if they use online activation then emulation is useless,but we do not know if they will use online activation scheme they haven't done it for ps3 for an reason.

They will most likely have online activation as it could be a one time thing where you just register the game which honestly would rule out such a low percentage of the population as everyone has or has access to internet to activate a game. I just can't see them not having it as they have made it clear they do not like the used game market. Look at diablo, they did it as always online and still made epic sales, if its just a register and then offline, you are ruling out like 0.001 percent of your customers.

online activation still doesn't mean console and games can't be cracked. just look at steam, or PSN games, or XBLA games. all of that requires online activation and was cracked.

Happened with the PS3, will happen with this new one (apparently) , can't recall on how it did with both x-boxes.

With a completely new generation the cards are shuffled again on the hacking sector. No one can say if its gonna be "hacked" faster or never at all. New technology, new potential exploits.
Sure, they may have learned from the past, but a new architecture brings new ways to exploit no one could foresee.

Things are not looking good for Microsoft, having the weaker hardware, more restrictive to users and developers. Also they are continuing on that social/connectivity/multimedia center path...
If all the information accumulated so far is accurate, then Sony will clearly have the superior next gen console.

I hope this will spark major issues with many countries that doesn't agree with people not being able to sell or lend friends their games. Perhaps resulting in Microsoft/Sony not being able to sell consoles in certain countries. Would be a wake up call, and a much needed one at that. If this happens i won't touch any consoles until they are hacked in some form.

Its totally bolocks that ps4 will have better hardware, even so MS has more expierience with making an OS, so their OS will be more leaner and will work much more efficent with the memory and stuff.

Nah, there is serious potential in no gaming functionality. As much as I hope they concentrate only on hardcore games, this won't happen. Imagine the next xbox having a cable port so it replaces your cable box. It would be able to record content, timeshift content and all the stuff a really good hd recorder can do now, but with the benefit of multitasking this with facebook notifications, a game in the background, your xbl friends list active while you are watching your favourite show. So imagine you are watching something on netflix while having a multiperson skype video chat on the right side of your screen while on the left you get a popup that someone sent you message via facebook. While we are all doing that on our smartphones, tablets +++ already, my mom doesnt and smart-tv's are still super slow and awful to use. So if she get's the same interface she is used from her Laptop (thats the win8 strategy), it acts quickly and if they pack this new box with cable contracts, it'll be dirt cheap and my 53 yo mom which doesn't have any interest in gaming and/or owning a console might get one. Families with younger children would also suddenly have all the more reason to own something like that, because it offers something for everyone.
An even if the first party forgets about the hardcore gamer, the third parties wont. We will get a shitload of awesome games, just like this gen...

Games like Uncharted 2&3 and God Of War 3 & Ascension, not to mention upcoming The Last Of Us. Nothing on Xbox360 looks nowhere near as good as those games. Naughty Dog also stated that Uncharted 2 was not possible to make for Xbox360 (some of the effects like the Depth Of Field). Hell those games looks better than PC games :/.

Especially Uncharted is hugely overrated on that front (and others as far as I'm concerned, but that's personal taste), it really is not THAT pretty technically speaking. What makes it pretty is very smart mapping. |

Yep, but the point is that almost all the multiplatform games (which are 90% of all games out there) look either equal or slightly better on the 360, since they are first developed on the weakest machine (the 360) and then ported over.
And since it seems ps4 and x720 will be similar in specs, I think it will be the same for these new consoles as well.

I'm was not even gonna comment, all I am going to say is that I would still take the machine where 95% of games look and run better over one that has a handful of games that (your opinion, not necessarily mine) may look better.
But hey, I really dont care I buy all the main consoles generally anyway, so I just grab the games I want on the systems that generally run them best.

Lets say God Of War: Ascension, name one game that has that kind of fidelity onscreen at PC? I havent never liked consoles, but after i saw that 30mins gameplay video, i was nearly shocked (it looked so fucking nice). I know if the game would have been done for PC, it would look unbeliavable, but that is the problem, they wont do that shit :/ Considering what the specs are on PS3, its just unreal that they can push that kind of graphics and stuff... As for Uncharted 2 & 3, i was constantly "wow", it just looked so damn nice, especially second one at release. They are not techically top notch, but presentation is just so solid.
