These are the same kids that would be wearing Marilyn Manson shirts and giant pants back when i was in high school. I dont quite understand it but let em do what they want. I rarely seem em out aside from shows because they are too busy talking to their myspace friends online. let em have their fun. they'll get over it someday.

but that doesn't mean i want to look like them. for me it's all about the music.
and IMO this IS exactly the same thing as with the punk and metal movement.
and syco, do you actually know what emo is? i don't think so. the bands you listed are trendy-teeny-charts-pop-punk sissies. but that's just my opinion
music did never lose it's purity.... maybe you just don't know where to look in todays music. |
no I know, but i used GC as my example cuz it was easy to prove my point...the new pop-punk/emo shit is all the same to me...sure more screaming and shit in emo, but the kids who are "emo" usually like both styles...they call it punk/emo...I call it new shit punk/ crap...whatever happened to real punk? ....sad

its till out there.
hidden from all self absorbed suicide driven kids.
emo has very little to do with punk.

thats what i like about straight edge... they dont drink/do drugs... and have fun nonetheless... then again... its a grouping... which i dont like like i said before
oh btw... the music i listen to is hard to describe... really varies alot...
but ill name some bands/artists...
jeff buckley, 54 Vision, slipknot, tool(fav band)/apc, tori amos, the prodigy, air, opeth(new album is awesome), dredg(first album), damien rice, the mars volta, black eyed peas... oh well... this is a small list of the more popular stuff i favorize... though there are lots and lost more...

i didn't bother reading everything but here's my opinion in a nutshell...
if you're the type of person who's going to label music as "emo" or some other genre and refuse to give it a chance, you're worse than anyone or thing you are criticizing. Ignorant.
If you don't like some type of music you have no reason to criticize it, go listen to something else.
PS I enjoy all types of music asides from scream/death/black whatever style... But I won't go and say it and all it's listeners are (insert negative stereotype here)...

uhm... you do know that the bands themself label their music fitting to a certain style right?
and... maybe you shoulve bothored reading the other comments cause then youd know what this is about... and not just guess...
and last but not least... why should you have your opinion about ppl who criticize music they dont like, which is quite normal, but they shouldnt have their opinion about the music? o_O and if those ppl who criticize the music wouldnt have started/posted in this thread you wouldnt even be able share your opinion

the sad thing about those emo-bands that no one will remember them in 10 years, 20 years max.
unlike bands like queen, nirvana and such

People that bash emo aren't better than people that bash gays, lesbians, jews, other races, etc.
For me it's pretty simple: If you don't like it, feel free to exchange jokes with your friends about it, feel free to avoid them, etc. But don't start openly acting holier-than-thou toward another group because of their life choices. There are plenty of social groups I dislike, but I don't consider my opinion to be worth more than theirs to me, and since they create no real interference for my life except a casual annoyance, my policy leans closer to "fuck them" than "fuck you".
That said, of all the fringe groups I would say I lean closest to the goth/punk/emo subculture in dress and hairstyle, although I don't like the bitchy attitude they are infamous for.
