What success? Perhaps you mean the praise it has received critically, because commercially..

Quote:
Capcom shipped 1 million units of DmC: Devil May Cry on Xbox 360 and PS3 in January. The company adjusted its sales forecasts for the game to 1.2 million by March 31, down from the 2 million projected back in May 2012.

The figures don't take into account the PC version, released on January 25. Nonetheless, they strongly indicate Ninja Theory's reboot is flagging way behind the last entry in the series, Devil May Cry 4, which shipped 2 million units in its first two weeks at retail.

..it can't even compare to the sales of DMC4. (Then again, these are shipped, not sold, but I suspect it's the same for units bought by customers.)

Not surprising, consider all the bad PR they got from the new Dante and Capcom's immature response. Now they will blame the IP and not themselves for screwing up a decent game.

Considering it was one of the first "nextgen" titles to be shipped on X360 and PS3, DMC4 might have benefited from that.

Remember, DmC (a reboot by western developers to appeal to western audiences) was created in the first place because they considered DMC4's sales too low. So it's not like they were happy with the IP before.

Now they'll most likely forget about the series for a while, at the very least until next-gen consoles arrive.

I really do care, which is why this game bothers me so much. Plus, Bayonetta is not on PC. I would probably like it if it was, but it wouldn't replace DMC for me. Smile

Yes so they will blame the IP itself. 4 definitely sold a good number, it wasn't bad by any means. Sells can't be the sole reason Capcom didn't want to make 5. I think a lack of direction is 1 reason. Then again Capcom throws away good IPs all the time.

dont forget that after re4 and dmc3 their respective lead designers left capcom, since then capcom has simply been re-hashing and emulating past games since they are unable to innovate after losing their most important people.

If it weren't for Nintendo Bayonetta 2 wouldn't even be made probably so it's hardly a guarantee you'll find games like this to play in the future. So you should care for both IPs to stay alive and well.

Well i finished it some days ago, and i really liked it. What surprised me the most, was the quality of the port. Excellent FPS with everything maxed, and the textures looked pretty sharp too.

"Story" was ok for me.

Some/many didn't seem to like the music in this one. Well i loved it ! Very Happy
Downloaded the soundtrack, to listen to it while i drive around in my car like a crazy bastard Fuck Yeah LOL

The PC version gets a update today, however the bloody palace is only announced for the X360 and PS3 so far and it'll be released on the 20th. Smile

North America - PS3: Tuesday, 2/19 | Xbox 360: Wednesday, 2/20
Europe - PS3: Wednesday, 2/20 | Xbox 360: Wednesday, 2/20

::UPDATE:: Just got word that the rumble issue in the PC version will also be getting a fix tomorrow.
