Whats the difference between being punk, grunge, "old skool rap" - Its all the same really, styles change and people shouldnt try to understand it, just like your parents probably didnt understand why you where singing along to songs about teen spirit and large holes that you sit in .
Don't get me wrong, Emo kids annoy the fuck out of me, but I'm not going to condem them because of they're life choices, Id be no better than people who beat homosexuals up on the street.

hey, just to put it on record, emo sucks, ok!?
and of course there is a difference between being punk, grunge, old-skool rap or whatever.
many styles or genres is fashion, but also alot other stay true to there sceene. especially punk has a lot of underground diy ethics. also various rap genres to an extent.
grunge though was a 90´s fashion project for middle class white youngsters, alot like emo today.
thankfully the music industry can only reach so far and let the rest of us enjoy the true spirit of music. so the styles stay with the hardcore folks.

Naw man. The grunge and rap movements of the early to mid 90's was something completely new. Teenage depression was just being recognized as something serious and kids had no way to deal with their problems...the who gen x, rebellion thing came to the forefront through music because finally kids and the like could share their emotions without being prosecuted as much. Ppl were fed up with all the bs in the media and were doing shit to make a change - the riots, music, movies etc. But when the pivitol ppl in this movement - Curt Cobain, Eddy Vedder, Scott Wailin, Chris Cornell, Tupac, Biggie, Lane Stanely and a few others either died or sucummed to their demons or were killed, the true essence of the "rebel" music died and transformed into what we have today - fake, corporate "rebel" music. Good Charolette, Papa Roach, Sum41, Blink 182 etc etc (tons of bands in the list) deliberately sell and write music to kids based on their problems. They sell their shit to the depressed kids, the fucked up ones. This is all corporate geared and it drives me nuts. One, because we lack heart filled, pure music.
Take Curt Cobain for example. He loved music, he love writing songs. He wrote songs (and poetry) to deal with his personal demons - whether it be his drug addicitions, being an outcast of sorts in school and through life, having family problems etc he told u flat out what he was about and he conveyed it through his music. If u happend to like it or identify with it and buy the record, good, but he didnt care...and as soon as Nirvana got huge, and all the media loved him and he was being thrown offers left right and center, and kids were gettin into his music because it was "cool" is when the music started to suck...their last album for example as compared to the first and second. He didnt want to be a star, he wanted to express himself and maybe help others by doing it.
Where as today, u got guys like the Papa Roach Singer/Song Writer. He talks about broken homes and disfunctional family life and depression and all that crap when in fact it was proven (or however u wish to put it) that his background does not reflect his lyrics and he has no personal experience when it comes to what he sings about - which is a poser and simply disgusting to me.
Its like me rapping about being a pimp or some big time drug dealing thug...Im not, but I betcha I could string a buncha words together that would sound good and make ya think I am. See what im saying. Music nowadays has all been corrupted by the tycoons and record exec's - they know what sells.
Dont get me wrong, there was always a certain level of corporatism to music, but I simply think its gotten outta hand nowadays. When ppl start making songs about running shoes (Airforce One) and u have ppl talking about being gangsta when their not, I think the music loses its purity.
Sure u may not like Biggie and what he talks about, but he really was big crack dealer on the streets of new york, he did gang bang, he was a mean fucker etc etc and he sang about. Not that I condone his life style, but atleast he was talking about some true and real. Rather than some poser talking about shit he has never even been close to.
anyway, thats my opinion

Syco, I totally agree! My point wasnt really about the music, because you are totally correct, I just don't think blaming all the kids is the right thing to do.
Punks, Skin heads, Goths, Grungers, they all had they're "TRUE" followers and the wannabe's who tagged onto something cool. Its the same now, you have true punks, goths, emo kids etc.. they do belive in the music, and belive that what is being sung about is true to the word. Its not they're fault the singers are full of shit !
I do belive they're are bands out there who belive in what they say, sing out of exprience.. the hardcore scene for example (very closely following the emo scene) is filled with reality..

These are all pop-punk bands, not emo
Both can suck on my knob. |
Pop = popular If you hate something because it's pop then you need to consider yourself a wannabe rebel. I like something I want to like regardless of any1 elses opinion

Well I wouldn't call many bands pop when they first arrive on the scene. Good charlotte wasn't pop here, most people hadn't even heard of them until lifestyles of the rich and famous. Their music style hasn't changed but they're considered pop instead of pussy punk now
Hating something because it's pop though is trying to be a rebel and disassociating yourself with people of this trend is my point.

No, don't blame the rap and funpunk kids, the hiphop kids, or the trendy pop kids, or the ravers, don't even blame the emo kids. Hell, its their free choice to act like they want and to listen to what they want. Try to respect all of them.
Except the emo guys. Well thats completely personal (and maybe a bit zynical but dont feel offensed ). I just always have to laugh at emo stuff, no matter how much I try to respect it and its followers. And by talking emo, I mean the real emo bands (taking back sunday, brand new, sunny day real estate, that shitty emo-punk thing called alkaline trio, all screamo stuff (autumn to ashes etc.) and worst and most terrible of all my chemical romance). I just can't stand that music, I find it so very silly. I can't help it picking on people listening to that, I really can't. Its like a love-hatred.
But please, dont feel offensed (actually, a good friend of mine is rather an emo guy, its kinda tradition to bash on the others music taste).
Nevertheless, emo sucks.
So please, for the sake of humanity and especially for the sake of music
Say no to Emo
thank you

P.S this could be love is a great song

Good point there... yeah, you're really right. Say no to emo might be a bit the wrong way... Well then, laugh at emo, pick on it, kick it for musics sake!
I hope thats better

Well... Its not about knowing. It simply sucks. thats all
sorry, I can't help it
btw, I saw finch on a festival once (by accident), I tried to stay, impossible, the singer with his hood-sweater and his screaming-emotional voice just drove me mad...

Well .. I find nu-metal, dance, techno etc. much more objectionable than emo.
@Saddam and MaroW, what kind of music do you two listen to?
asus z170-A || core i5-6600K || geforce gtx 970 4gb || 16gb ddr4 ram || win10 || 1080p led samsung 27"
