Well? I am seriously thinking about getting old school cut-throat razor and do it that way.
I am frankly tired of shaving, it was fun when I was 17 but god damnit it has really become a chore to do every 1-3 days. Figured I would use cut-throat razor to see how it feels

When I used to shave, I used the 3-blade things. Now I just use electric machine to trim and scissors to shorten the moustache (can't stand it getting in my mouth )

I don't see the point of straight razors at this stage of "western civilization" (to quote Bane), really. The 3-blade (or newer, even more efficient systems) are just as efficient as the razor, while taking away a lot of the risks involved. So is it just to feel like a "man"? In which case, this is ridiculous, as usual for the "YOLO"-type actions. I am really wondering. I do not shave anymore, but this has always made me wonder. In the barbershop, I see why a trained barber would use the throwaway straight razors - they are cheap, throwable and most importantly, he is proficient at using them. But at home? What's the point.

Fair enough. But you said yourself, that you have stopped shaving at some point in your life. Not sure what is your age right now, when did you start shaving and when did you stop.
I think a little variety is good in someone life, and heaven forbid we get a zombie outbreak and there will be no electricity?
I think it's one of those things someone should know. But perhaps it has been me, watching too many old western movies
I guess it also depends, when you are in a hurry, either shave few minutes before leaving for work or night before.

The 3-blade sticks do not require electricity. I am now 26, have not been shaving for 6-7 years (on and off, shaving the beard completely from time to time). But if I was to start shaving now, I wouldn't use a "cut-throater" either. It's just too dangerous to do quickly, so every morning doing it carefully is not something I see myself divulging time to.

Double edge safety razor is the way to go if you do clean shaven. Insanely cheap and very close, comfortable shave. No point in straight razors IMO since safety razors get as close. I have both though.
I don't clean shave anymore, just keep a neat beard and keep the neckline with an electric beard trimmer.

false. A sharp straight razor in the hands of a skilled user will be a closer, more comfortable shave. It wont be nearly as quick...

I use Mach3 disposable ones. I tried shaving with electric one, but that irritates my skin too much, especially the lower part, on my neck, where I have only small amount of facial hair. I also tried that gillette with 5 razors or whatever, and those are crap. Even my brother in law who has a decent facial hair said that those with 5 blades are crap, and that the 3 blades are more than enough...
My aunt was a professional barber (one of the old school ones ), and she owned a barber shop (hairdresser only for males), and she had those old style razors I never tried to shave with those, but I remember my dad using real razors, that he put in his old style thingamajig But that broke and now he shaves wit electric one...

I only trim down to 4mm on the most part and only once per week maximum.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I use a trimmer with length set to a minimum. Gives me 3 days unshaven look and then I just grow it for a week
