Yeah, I chose S3 mainly because of the battery life AND the sd card slot Laughing

Too bad I only noticed that the phone supports only microsim cards after I already ordered it Laughing

But I ordered a microsim cutter as well, it should all be good.

Got a 16GB class 10 microsd card too, don't need more than 32gb of space. (or 27, since I heard the OS takes about 5 gigs from the 16 gigs it has)

If you are going to root your phone Neon I recommend Omega rom. They are the best ones I've used. Always had iphones can't imagine going back after using the s3. You can customize pretty much what you want.

Holy shit, this is a fucking amazing phone... The screen is crisp and huge, and it's so buttery smooth So Much Win

Just a question- according to the phone it's running 4.1.1 Android version (Jellybean)

If I wanted to use Omega rom (which everyone seem to love), should I install the 4.1.1 version or 4.1.2?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656

It might be a stupid question, but I'm not sure whether or not I should install the version that is the same with my phone or higher because it's newer.

it's the same as with other programs newer versions, older is stable, newer could be more buggy, but you get newer features (or don't have them if they removed it Razz).

But other then that, there should be nothing holding you back (unless stated otherwise with the rom, like a certain radio or bios update that is needed for the kernel/rom)

You can use whichever version of Android you want as long as it's compatible with the S3 (pretty much every custom Android ROM should be).
I'd advise not using any custom ROMs untill you are familiar with the original first. Just use titanium backup to remove useless apps and you're good to go.

The S3 doesn't have a locked bootloader, only Verizon has locked it.

My rooted S3 is currently on the first version of JB available for it, 4.1.1. Each time i turn my phone on now, i'm been pestered to update, i presume this is version 4.1.2??

Is it safe for me just to allow it to download and update? i would i have to put the file onto my phone via USB cable and boot into recovery etc...

Thank's Smile

so i finally got myself a SIII after not being able to order the nexus 4 ( watch it go be available 24/7 now that i bought SIII ).

Few questions i would like to ask here instead of googling for answers ( i sometimes got the impression people copy paste from eachother and give like 100 different solutions ) so i rather ask one of you guys.

My phone seems to take up alot of ram, 500 out of 800 after using using the taskmanager to clear open programs. Which i feel is quite alot. Any tips?

One thing i plan to do is get rid of the bloatware, for this i assume i need to root it and have an app to delete those apps. What methods did you guys use?
Also wondering how much i can delete without messing anything up. I see there is google play books / movies now. but neither is available in my country ( bought the phone in Germany ) nor do i plan to use it. Will deleting those mess with the standard google play for apps application? I also see samsung apps ( looks like google play alternative ) any harm in deleting it? what about samsung specific apps like S voice (i know google voice is better but for sake of example ) are these updated by samsung apps, google play or by official rom updates?

I also cant seem to play bluray rips with DTS ( the common 720p ones you find all over the net ). the internal video player and MXplayer cant deal with the DTS codec and dont give me sound. VLC beta does play the sound but the movie goes out of sync fast. Any possibilities to get this to work flawlessly? and should i use hardware gpu accelleration? MY experience with my desktop is that if my CPU is fast enough to do it in software its better to use that since GPU is never trouble free for me. SIII has quad 1.4ghz so i dont know if GPU accel would improve anything, maybe battery life?

Ram is not an issue with Android, free ram = wasted ram. So you got nothing to worry about that (mine is usually only 120mb out of 768)

Yep, you need to indeed root it, after that get Titanium Backup and remove the apps you don't want to use at all.

Here is a nice list specially for that Wink (altho, i wouldn't know up-to-date the list is, but most should still be valid)

The other things i cannot really answer (the GPU accell is something i do use on my Sensation, but wouldn't know about the impact on batter and such), but why are you not just getting a custom rom instead of removing the bloatware 1 by 1?
Much easier and it will only be better for your device, custom roms are always faster and smoother and more stable then stock Wink

I have had S3 for about half year now. The so called gorilla glass is full of scratches (always keep it jackets pocket). Sometimes lighter might be in same pocket (still does not explain the scratches, in demonstation videos its getting smashed with hammer and scratched with knife and nothing)... Made from very flimsy cheap shit plastic (at this price point, wtf samsung??). Other than that awesome phone and fast, but gonna be last samsung, if they dont up the build quality.

Had S2 before, was in army, and it felt literally that it gets smashed to pieces in army conditions. Still no scratches and shit.

doesnt the S3 support ntfs on SD cards? put in formatted 16gb sd card in ntfs format, couldnt reconize it and when i let the S3 format it it put it in FAT32 so cant put files above 2gb on it.

not sure (I have a nexus... ) - but I guess you`ll need a custom kernel for ntfs support.

I'm using Android Revolution HD currently, it's great. It's a bit faster than official and battery life is better. It's my first custom ROM though.

If it's the same that makes the Revolution HD on the Sensation, then you are good by picking that one.
Together with team Venom, they are one of the best custom rom makers Smile

Grr, i knew i shouldnt have used a ROM since apparently they are all filled with bugs, just finished installing CM 9.1 stable, lo and behold Wifi is NOT working and there isnt a fix for that so yeah, if you are new to this id advice you to not use a custom rom, ever.

spent hours on this and now i have to revert back...
