DS1 is action-horror, so was 2 as well.
DS3 has lost the atmosphere from previous games, added enemies wuth guns, crafting system that no one was asked for, UNIVERSAL ammo and some other stupid design choices. Now this i can call mediocre tps, not ds2.

Yeah i don't get why some people call DS1 pure survival horror. It has tons of action as well. DS2 has more shooting only in last two chapters and i think doesn't deserve to be called mediocre tps. Dead Space-ish atmosphere was there.

OK so, not comparing this to DS1 (because no one is expecting it to be the same game), if you think about DS3 as a stand alone game - is it any good?
I am prepared to live with them completely destroying all that was good with Dead Space, but now, taking a different view, is DS3 enjoyable? If so, then at least it's another good game. The devs are still the devs, so they SHOULD be capable of putting out a good game. It's just a shame its part of the dead space franchise...

Just played to the part where the artifact thing gets activated. Does this game become more atmospheric and creepy? I don't find walking around in a big city shooting zombies to be the slightest part creepy and so far removed from the other games. Like i said, i'm just where it starts, but i have the feeling that this is how the rest of the game is.

Even though i wouldn't rate this better than the previous dead space titiles, i will say i am enjoying it enough to keep me going through the game.
Review so far
Spoiler: | Pros:
New Game+
Variety of Weapons ( Many different blue prints for different types of people)
Plasma Cutter is still the best weapon.
Crafting system ( I know some people might not like it but i does a Dead Rising aspect to it.)
Some new enemies.
Some of the cinematic scenes are neat.
Cons:
Story could be better
Ellie boobs got bigger.
Variety of Weapons (Some of the weapons you make are useless.)
The armor upgrades don't show up on the suit. (Health and Air upgrades do.) Dead space 1 did.
Some optional missions require a co-op partner to do. (They don't allow you to access those areas which might prevent you from getting certain blue prints or weapons.) |

I don't have the shiny shiny syndrome because it's new, I had just always wanted to try the first one out because of the survival horror aspect but never got around to it. I have a little time now but don't really have enough to play all 3.

I always hated that you don't get quick lots of different weapons in dead space 1.

i used only the plasma cutter through dead space 1 and 2, its a shame really cuz theres so many weapons to try, but i never felt the need to switch,
i told myself going into deadspace 3 im not useing the plasma cutter for the whole game, and on hard, its providing a nice little challenge, im running out of ammo constantly (almost got my self stuck at a checkpoint, only had about 20 shots on a automatic gun, and had to take down one of those things inside the wall, with the insta kill tentacles if u get close, needless to say 20 shots is no where near close to finish it off, and i was seriously stuck for a hour getting past it, had to meele a bunch of enemies and hope for ammo drops.)

Doesn't change the fact that there is no feeling of loneliness and dread in this game. As far as I've seen there are always people around you. Not with you as a partner, but you are never alone in places.

Here's some more info from the news Quote: | Classic mode, the most interesting of the haul, is single-player only and uses “classic aiming.” Papoutsis describes it as being for “the DS1 veterans out there” and notes that it doesn’t include the game’s crafting system, instead requiring that all weapons be constructed from blueprints found through the course of the story.
A New Game + mode will also be available, as has been in all the Dead Space games, which allows you to keep your equipment and stats and restart the story. Pure Survival Mode will be more geared toward a survival horror experience, making resource management tougher my removing all resources (that is, crafting materials, health and ammo) from the world so that they’re only found on killed enemies. Finally, Hardcore mode throws permadeath your way — you only get one life for the length of the campaign. |
I haven't played it myself yet, so I can't say for sure how much that changes things. But by what they say in the article and what you're saying from playing the game, it sounds like those modes make it more DS2 than DS1.
Meh, still sounds better than the Uncharterted/gear-ized DS3 I've played in the demo.
P.S. Weird, I remember that classic aiming was an option in the gameplay settings of the demo so having it by default in those modes doesn't sound like a feature. Unless it's not there in the full game...

The game just doesn't save when you "choose save and quit". sadly... It could have just said quit. The game have tons of checkpoints, but few places it saves. So I play as much as I can at once.
