no, correct order to play games is based on their release time line, not in-game timeline.

correct timeline yea (except for this dmc2 that you are talking about, it never existed)

but correct way to play them is still dmc 1 - dmc3 - dmc4 because playing 1 after 3 is just weird gameplay-wise.

after all, nobody gives a crap about the storyline in dmc games, its all about the perfect gameplay.

I liked the story for the first time through the game, now this second run on Son of Sparda I'm doing much better with the actual gameplay though having practiced with the various equipment and having a lot of upgrades certainly helps too. Razz
(I got my first SSS rank on the first level which is pretty good, SS isn't too problematic though but I've never reached the SSS one before.)

(Level score is also improving, from between A or B to S or SS though I fall behind with the time limit scoring since I explore the areas and try different things to reach those lost souls or keys, only done a few of those door challenges though but I've unlocked a majority of them.)

Indeed, in most cases the correct way is to play them how they were released (same goes with movies).

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Stop assuming your case is everyone else's case too. As I said before, I don't play the DMC games just for their gameplay. I do actually love the general story of the series even though I don't care about the plot of each game in particular that much and I also love the way the story is told in them. And I also love most of the characters from the series. While I like Dante in general, I must say the Dante from the first game is especially awesome. So here's why this more "mature" style of the new game makes the game so bad for me when for others it doesn't. Unlike others, I do care about more than just the gameplay in DMC. No matter how good or bad this new one is, it's not the DMC I like. And I can't take it like some other game since it throws stuff from the DMC mythos at you constantly, while also making fun of the old ones (it's just a joke!!! sure...).

you may not play them JUST for the gameplay, but you cant tell me that the gameplay isnt the #1 aspect you play them for, after all that was what the good old capcom games were all about: great gameplay and a silly, corny story - and it was great that way.

The gameplay is the most important aspect in any game for me, but that doesn't mean I play all games just for their gameplay. It also doesn't mean I go as far as hating/disliking the other aspects of them.

Yeah, but it still feels better with a gamepad, at least to me.

i didnt say i hate the story of dmc games, i love the corny stuff as much as in the resident evil games, its a capcom tradition.
all i said is nobody plays these games mainly for their story, so it makes more sense playing them in order from a gameplay-development point of view instead of chronologically.

Well, the word "mainly" makes a huge difference in what you're trying to say, don't you think? Smile I can understand not playing especially for the story, since it just isn't the main aspect of the game. I however, while I still don't consider it a main aspect since I can't (it's not a subjective thing no matter how much we twist this, hehe), I do really love the aspect and it saddens me to see it butchered, especially in terms of characters (guess I can say goodbye to seeing more JACKPOTs now too Sad). As for the correct way of playing them, I already said that I think the same thing as blackdochia when I agreed with him. I prefer to play them so the timeline is right, that's the correct way as far as I am concerned. I didn't find it weird like this either. The weird/uncomfortable feel came from the game being emulated, rather than it being older/inferior in some ways. Smile Also, while the story (let's just call it that even though it's more than just the story itself) is corny, cheesy, whatever you want to call it, I find if very smartly done at the same time which makes it better than what a lot of other games/crap these days have. And as you said, it's kind of like a Capcom trademark.

I must say, there's one thing that I really like in this game, and it's the level design. Some of the locations are definitely inspired despite the goofy characters and dialogues. Good use of the UE3 too, there's some typical pop-in but animations (including the facial ones) and textures are generally more than decent for a port. (some SweetFXing is recommended also Razz)

It's a very well ported game to the PC, don't be afraid of the controls. It's much better and sharper than DMC3 or DMC4's controls were. Smile Still, it could be more fun with gamepad, but I've just finished the game with keyboard+mouse combo Wink

This game is based on the Unreal-engine, isnt it?
I would like to know, why some games basing on this engine have these annoying texture-loading problems (the worst being Borderlands 2 actually) and other games dont have these problems.
On what specifications is that depending on?
Are there tweaks or changes to the ini-configuration data of the Unreal engine to prevent this?
I am wondering since I recently replaced my old ATI 6870 graphics card (with 1 gig video ram) with a newer 7950 (with 3 gig video ram) and expected it would get better - but it doesnt.

thx Confused

Try this config tweak, it worked for Borderlands 2 textures and I bet will work on DMC.

Under My Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3\DevilGame\Config
Open DevilEngine.ini

Go to section: [Engine.Engine]

Make these lines all 0 like so:
MipFadeInSpeed0=0
MipFadeOutSpeed0=0
MipFadeInSpeed1=0
MipFadeOutSpeed1=0

Save file, done.
If it doesn't work, it was worth a shot.

the best boss fight in the game, which is the last one, was taken 1:1 from dmc3, even all the moves are the same although it was simplified alot to avoid frustration.

And the end result is that it is easy just like the rest of the bosses in this game.

Download costumes pack dlc and copy its upk and tfc files to DevilGame\CookedPCConsole\
Don't copy these files:
Dojo_Import.upk
GlobalPersistentCookerData.upk
PersistentCookerShaderData.bin

open dlc's DevilGame.ini and copy its content in the end of game's DefaultGame.ini (DevilGame\Config\).
do the same thing for DevilEngine.ini -> DefaultEngine.ini.

go to dlc's Localization folder and pick your language, then open GFxUI with notepad and copy its content in the end of game's GFxUI.

Well, I guess I was really terrible at this game. I played on the normal difficulty (I think it's called Demon hunter) and from 6th mission and on I usually ended up with like 2 deaths in each mission. Never used a golden orb though as I consider it a cheat and simply don't like the idea of it.
