Isn't that THQ Montreal studio the one where one of the UbiSoft's notable game designers "defected" ? Smile
Interesting how that worked out. Let THQ set up a studio with their own designer and then buy the whole thing back "for cheap" Very Happy

That statement from Ubi clears one problem: they've acquired the publishing rights. I cry for Obsidian, knowing how prompt are Ubi in paying their devs (Nival with HOMM5 - made under the directions given by Ubi, Black Sea Studios with HOMM6 and the list is so long lately....).

Now i'm curious how it will work between Sega and Games Workshop with the War 40k and Dawn of War series. After all, Relic managed to introduce a new Space Marine chapter in the War 40k Universe. One very popular, i might add.

Thanks for the great moments Vigil, such talented guys really deserved to stick together..but these are harsh times, and companies are going down like dominoes. This is the sad reality, and it sucks :<

Yeah, fuck that.

Anyway, regarding THQ. What exactly is the situation with THQ/Vigil? Vigil is dead, as in, everything Vigil related is liquidated? Or did THQ simply do a mega lay-off.

Also, wasn't a bank going to give them a loan, and some other "unknown" money source?

Vigil is still up for grabs by anyone, it is not exactly dead, THQ still have a window of time to sell their remaining assets. Chapter 11 is still in effect afaik. So Vigil's are not getting lay offs, instead their status is kind of "on hold" and if no one buys them, then I would assume the studio would just have to close up shop.

If Platinum buys Darksider, then I personally would welcome it. I couldn't stand the puzzles and needless platforming in those games, and the "3 pieces to open the big door" mechanic is retarded. I think they tried too hard to have many elements from different games and it makes it harder for people to enjoy all of them. Platinum / Clover are more focused in their games, it is always very clear as to what direction they want their games to be, which I think is what Darksiders needs.

Obviously it's sad that they lost their jobs, but I'm sure some studios will pick them up soon enough.

What about the franchise though? Does buying the studio or hiring the guys working at the studio get you the IP? I'd really hate it if Darksiders dies. There's still two horsemen and a finale to go Sad

THQ would likely abandon Darksiders anyway.

http://www.vg247.com/2012/07/31/vigil-darksiders-future-depends-on-darksiders-ii-sales/

Quote:
“Absolutely [the future of Darksiders is dependent on how this sells]. We’ve got ideas for what we can do within the Darksiders universe, and it’s a huge universe. We’ve got ideas for different types of games as well. We’ve got a lot of mechanical things that are the boil and are ready to go depending on how this sells.

“With the focus on DLC we want to sustain the amount of time people can spend playing Darksiders.

“Hopefully within that time we’ll find how it’s been received, how people are liking it, so a lot of our future as a games studio will be dependent on how this goes.”

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/11/05/darksiders-ii-sales-below-expectations.aspx

Quote:
THQ said today that overall sales of Darksiders II fell below expectations for the quarter. The game, which released in August, has shipped 1.4 million since the end of September 2012.

So THQ being disbanded or not, Darksiders III wasn't very probable of happening.

I have no idea about Platinum. They mean nothing to me right now, but you convinced me.

I don't want them anywhere near Vigil and Darksiders if that's what they would do.

Fine, prove it then! Because that's clearly not what I expect from KM/DS considering their recent work. I also hope they learn something from Volition too, instead of just bossing them around. Also, I want more Red Faction!

Currently doing a sequel to Bayonetta (Something like a spiritual sequel to DMC.) for the Wii-U I believe.
