Prinanha Bytes biggest fail is trying to imitate Oblivion with Gothic 3. We went from the controlled world and player experience of Gothic 2, to some strange mixture of concepts in Gothic 3. PB as a studio utterly lacks any kind of management, they lack direction and control. The same thing happened with the transition from Risen 1 to Risen 2. We went from an innovative game which could and definitely should serve as a strong basis for a sequel, to a game which could've been easily made five years before the original based on combat, gameworld and underlying tech. I don't know wtf is happening at PB and who actually is directing what they do, but props to Jowood for dealing with game development and management at PB for so long (I know many people think Jowood sucks and think that Jowood made PB suck).

What happened to these series?
I'm still on the first island and the setting, dialogs, etc are similar to the first one.
But the combat is fucking horrible(clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick), dodge is useless, most of the stuff I get is rammed into the provisions category (so I guess there's much less potion variety on this when compared to the first no) and the chests I've been finding are full with shit, 10gold + 1 provisions ~5 times ready, seriously?
Which for me is a huge killer on any incentive there might be to explore... one of the appeals of the original was that most chests had something relatively valuable on them and that really made the game for me.
So far it seems to me that everything good about the first game was exchanged for a blander game with a pirate setting (and what the fuck is so great about that, anyway?)... godammit, PB
Seriously considering just playing through the original yet again instead of continuing with this one.

try to unlock more swordmaster techniques maybe? it doesn't get much better later on though toni.
new islands are cool and all but it's pretty much more of the same till the underwhelming and extremely easy boss fight/end, did you know that they even put an area like that dreaded area in the mage tower from doa, complete with blinding white filters.

Then you're doing it wrong. Sure you can kill animals like that, but some of the humans actually requires more skill / opportunities and combos. I do agree that it's more clickety-click than Gothic1-2 though | Yep, this.

When it comes to the combat system in this game, sadly you basically have to deal with it. It gets better when you unlock some stuff, but it never reaches Risen's level of satisfaction (where timing did actually count).
It's a bummer, you either try to tolerate it or..well farewell pirates.

the game is still worth playing. I've completed gothic 1, risen 1 and 2. still have gothic 2 and 3 to go through. I just keep postponing them because I know I will stop eating and stuff cause these games draw me in so much

I don't want to bump the Gothic 3 thread, so I'll ask here. Did any mod try to attempt a combat overhaul?

Despite being a step back from Risen 1 I find it to be very enjoyable.
I got sucked into the world easily, everything was fun to do, the exploring, charming characters and the graphics were awesome. This game is all about immersion.
Definitely not about the combat. Just take the musket and shoot everything to smithereens and be done with it.
All in all one of the more memorable experiences to me.

I currently really want to play a RPG. Only played the "demo" of Risen 2 back then for about one hour at release. I found it pretty good, despite the hate it got from others.
Any opinions of how fun the game is after the beginning?

If you liked the start you'll like the game. It gets better (though still nowhere near the first IMO).

Luckily i have none of these problems. But getting any FXAA to work is a pain in the ass, and not worth the hassle for me (no textures, game not starting, black screen after start).
Only the combat gameplay sucks so hard. Now that i have a muskete, things changed a bit. And i don't get dominated by little monkeys throwing rocks at me.
But i still can't fight anything face to face. Parrying does shit, because enemy blocks too when i try to counter attack.
Also their attacks don't get interrupted, while mine does when they do another 30hit combo. I always run away and jump on a high rock or just run to my comrade so they attack him instead gg
I now got my ship after around 10 hours of playing. So far the game is VERY average. And it's not worth more than the ~3.5€ i paid for me
