Wasn't the first one born from a scrapped RE reboot?
Maybe they should have taken the hint with this one?

Why would anyone want the old Dante? Could not stand him, or his attitude. Well, the DMC3/4 versions. DMC1 was bearable actually.
So nothing has changed really in terms of characters/and or plot quality, but this one has some creative visuals and level design, better platforming, and a fresh take on the fighting mechanics (don't really like some of it though)

I do and many others. It's the reason they did this skin in the first place. So I'm not in a minority here, even if you think so. You couldn't stand him, I absolutely loved the character. And I've seen enough reviews to understand that quite a lot has changed in terms of characters and/or plot quality, in bad. The characters in general seem very unlikable and while the plot itself was never something more than ok in a DMC game, the gothic-like style of the previous games helped a lot in that department. The other things you mentioned just make the game different, not worse or better. Good for you if you like this "Fuck you!" teenager junkie dubshit "I don't give a shit!" approach of the new one. I really don't. And again, I'm not the only one. Also, unlike others, gameplay alone is not what made me love DMC so much, so that doesn't mean I will even be ok with this one. I want not to hate it, but all that corny, cheesy, juvenile crap is thrown in the face of the player. That's the reason why I also think ME3 is so bad, with a few parts of it being properly good. I really don't know how so many people seem to be ok with stuff like that, but I can't stand it.

The wig scene is a real slap in the face to the old fans, just as Angry Joe said. And nope, that wig is different as far as I know. I don't know about the Devil Trigger. I mean, I know he looks more like the old Dante in that mode, but I think it's just the colors that are changing.

No, I certainly do not like the new character or the juvenile writing. I'm just saying that they just as juvenile and bad as in the old ones. The gothic vibe was strong in DMC1 and somewhat in DMC3 (although it was drowned out by the retarded intentionally cheesy dialogue).

Whatever, if you think so... The old games were nothing like this for me. I mean, sure, they were cheesy too because as someone said, they had that B-movie feel to them, but they were cheesy in a smart way if that makes any sense. Also, I really didn't find them juvenile. I am making this hard for myself since I don't really know exactly how to say why I think the old ones were so much better in this regard.

its simple, the old games were intentionally cheesy and over the top, they didnt take themselves too seriously,
the new game tries to have a serious story while throwing in all the juvenile stuff, it doesnt fit.
dmc was always about near perfect gameplay/combat, responsiveness and some of the best boss fights in gaming, the story never played a role.
but i dont want to bash the new dmc, i have expected much worse from ninja theory, atleast gameplay wise (while not perfect) its closer to old dmc games than i expected.

I unignored him just for this post to see what he said, but he hasn't changed so he's back on ignore. Don't need any of that shit. And yes, it's not stretched. Unlike DMC2 and DMC3, the first one has widescreen support from the start and it doesn't require a patch like the other two. I tried the game before, years ago, but it didn't run that well and it still had glitches so I haven't played it for long. I might do it now. I must say though, playing this, you can really see how much they improved the combat in the later titles. It's not bad in this either, but it feels a bit worse.

Wow, I wasn't aware that the character and story in the DMC games was anywhere close to memorable or important. I'm glad I don't give a shit as long as the gameplay is the same, so I'll probably enjoy it.

how does it feel to not have any attention to detail whatsoever? here you go, your screenshot at proper 4:3 format. oh look dante doesn't look like fatso any more, chandelier isn't oval, statue and colons don't look weird any more. but ok keep on ignoring the truth, that always works out very well
image properly scaled to 4:3 aspect ratio:

of course its stretched, but many people played the pal version with thick black borders and stretched screen so they wont notice.

Why do we even consider if this is stretched?
Dant is a fat ass in the first image so wtf if someone can't see that.
Besides, DR maybe have aspect ratio correction option in his display? This way, game would look proper on screen (black borders on side) but screenshots would be stretched because of window resolution set in pcsx2
