As some of you know I was going to buy the C Coupé last year, but I didn't because my brother and many other people told me to wait for the new cars from MB. They told me that they're much better. So I've decided to wait. I've also had some issues with my job, but everything is fine now, right now I'm attending to mercedes school and also working at mercedes after classes (very good money).

Gotta decide soon.

The A 250 Sport AMG

211 HP (max. speed: 240 km/h // 150 mph)
1991 CC
7 Gears-DCT (automatic dual transmission)

Price with my config: ~ 45.000,00 EUR (for me 22.280 EUR)

The CLA 250 AMG

211 HP (max. speed: 240 km/h // 150 mph)
1991 CC
7 Gears-DCT (automatic dual transmission)

Price with my config: ~ 50.000,00 EUR (for me 26.200,00 EUR)

I could have the A250 in about 2-3 months if I order it now. But for the CLA I would have to wait until July.

Really don't what which one to buy. My friend told me that I should lease it instead of buying it. But I don't know...leasing a car is like throwing money out of the window, at the end of the day you don't own the car and can't do any tuning.

I don't mind waiting until July for the CLA. I'll do a test drive with the A250 in the coming weeks, after the snow is gone. I'll make some pics and videos while testing the car Very Happy and I'll post it here.

To me Leasing is viable if you are using it to defer payments, and you make more money with what you saved by investing. Also if you are self employed, leasing makes the write off so much simpler. I used to get a new truck every three years. Now since i cant write them off, i bought my last truck.

As for the car decisions. Im not a benz guy at all, but i personally like the looks of the CLA 250 AMG. The other looks like a run of the mill benz. Both seem under powered to me though?

It's a shame it's Mercedes which you can get so cheap. Friend of mine who's got more money than brains (rich family Razz) has actually driven the A 250 Sport (ignore the AMG bit btw, because they stuck that sticker on one of the efficient ones as well - it's the "Sport" bit that matters). He said its steering is fairly responsive albeit a bit loose. The gearbox is crap though, even on sport mode it's just slow; throttle's a little unresponsive as well, there's a notable delay.

For comparison's sake, his car history include an R32, Focus RS, M3 and he now drives an RS5 so he's got some comparison material Razz

I'd wait and drive the CLA before making your decision.

I'd go with the A 250 Sport AMG
1) it's hatchback <3
2) it has better hp/weight ratio = more dynamic
3) costs less and thus gives more opportunities for extra options, tuning..

but you have to consider that usually ppl think that smaller is inferior for some vague reason, also it won't get you to score with the dumb chicks or get points with ppl that are used to driving cruise ships..

whichever you choose - be sure to get cruise control, adaptive suspension, and ofc LIMITED SLIP DIFF!! Twisted Evil

edit: also heated seats is fucking amazing in winter

Yea, dunno why they're so underpowered. I'm sure they're just locked at 240 km/h, just like every other Mercedes Benz. You can get rid of the lock and even do some tuning - but only if you own the car.

@StrEagle: yea, heated seats are amazing, I have that in my Golf that I'm driving right now Very Happy.

I'll post a list of my config when the website is working again...the configurator is kinda fucked up right now.

I remember looking at Mercs a while ago and pretty much all of them seem like they don't have much power. I assumed it was because they were aimed at being more of a luxury car, than a performance car.

Depends on what you compare them against. I'd much rather drive in a merc than a subaru or whatever. I value the driving experience more than speed.

Isn't the E series an option? E350 CDI --> beast.

That's the thing though Mister_s, a Merc really doesn't handle as well as they should for what they cost. I've never liked them, they're far too expensive for what you get. Too much bullshit, not enough car. VAG and BMW (just to stick with the "expensive" German groups) at these price levels just are much more fun to drive if you actually like driving. There's a reason Mercedes A-class will never be picked as a hot hatch, because it's simply not hot Razz

I never had any problems with handling in a mercedes. BMW's are great, they are fast and react very well on the road. They are however not even close to the sturdiness of a mercedes (the E-type is unbreakable really) and a good amount behind the comfort of a good mercedes. Volkwagens is cool, but not my type of car. Audi is a good second to mercedes, but you still have the comfort edge of the mercedes (Audi has really shitty interior design imo). Volvo is a bit of an odd duck in this list, but those cars come very close to the comfort of a mercedes.

This is all opinion of course. I must also admit I do not like cars like Subaru or Mazda since those feel like toy cars to me.

The second you buy a car the value drops thousands and keep dropping every month/year (= always a lossy affair). By leasing you can change to newer models on a yearly basis.

My suggestion is to sit down and make a proper calculation on the best economical alternative. There are lists of how much value a car lose depending on several criteria, payments, interests, insurance etc.. Then compare that with leasing.

ps. personally I've never liked the look of the A-class Benz. It just doesn't feel "Mercedes" enough, sort of like the BMW 1-series.

Depends entirely on make/model/year/country and if it was new or second hand. But yeah, Mercedes have a lower loss of value than many other brands.

But that's my point: VAG/BMW are only slightly behind Mercedes when it comes to comfort, but Mercedes is miles behind VAG/BMW when it comes to actual driving pleasure. Obviously the supercars I'm sure all handle mighty fine, but every Merc I've driven (a couple of E-classes, one diesel, one petrol and a petrol C-class) had the exact same lazy steering my friend spoke about after driving the A-class. Same goes for the lazy throttle, which I imagine is only worse in a newer car due to the inherent electrical delay (I'm still very much a fan of good old mechanical pedals Very Happy).

It's obviously all subjective, but I don't see why a Mercedes has to be so much more expensive than a similar VW or BMW if it doesn't drive as well. You don't get a car because you want to just sit back and fall asleep, you get a car because you like to drive - so for me that's the primary factor for a car. It has to drive well, everything else is just a bonus; and quite frankly, the difference between VAG/BMW and Mercedes is mostly the finish. They're like the Apple of cars as far as I'm concerned - overpriced, overmarketed, underpowered Razz

And if you don't like driving and you only get it to get you from A to B, you wouldn't go for any of these but for some 800 EUR 27th-hand piece of crap Very Happy

Also, newer Mercs aren't the tanks the old ones used to be. The only brand that is still indestructible as ever is Porsche Smile

Anyway, I stand by my point: I'd wait and see how the CLA drives. Because even though you're getting the A-class at a price point which makes it good for what it offers, I'd still hate to get it and not like its driving characteristics in the end Smile

again, imo

I'd get the CLA 250. While I'm an avid fan of hatchbacks, the CLA looks insanely good. Saw it on the streets here, everyone turns their head. Not saying the A is bad, it's just that everyone has a hatchback (even I had at one point). There's also more space.

The second one is so damn ugly! If I had a gun at my head I would choose the first one simply because it doesn't look bad. I wouldn't know how either drives, so... If I had all those money instead of the gun at my head, I would probably just get a Lancer or an Impreza... or something else if it has to be newer (Ford Mondeo comes to mind).

I am really not a fan of the Mercedes design atm. So I would choose neither. I'd go BMW if I had the cash, Audi have really begun to bore me lately. But they probably still look better than my Seat Exeo ST. (which was more of a price/performance/comfort choice. Design is a luxury for me. )

I voted for the first one anyway. The CLA looks too much bling-bling to me. Designed for the asian market. It really shows...

I don't know whether you ever tried a E320 from around 2010, brilliant cars. The C-models are the smaller models, so not my car, but the C270 is alos very fast and comfortable.

I do agree however mercedes is seriously overpriced. They can learn a lot from BMW in that department. If you have 30K euros for example, you can buy a full option BMW while you can barely get a barebone C-type. I'd personally never buy a new mercedes, no matter how good I think the cars are.
