If you think Apple Computer's Steve Jobs invented the technology behind the Apple iPod, don't bet your 60GB, 15,000-song model on it.

According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, patent applications that cover much of the technology associated with the iPod were submitted by Microsoft, which has been on a patents tear recently filing thousands of patents.

Well i think that if this was true MS woulda jumped at this a LOT sooner. They wouldn't have allowed apple to pick up the momentum that could cover these royalties. Just think if it happened before iTunes, and the 2nd + generation ipods. It clearly woulda flopped and apple wouldnt be the force it is today.

MS probably patents millions of things a day they don't know what most of it is so i bet they been looking for awhile to find it.

That's just redic. if ms had a suspicion of a patent I think there's a law to stop the infringing company for a set amount of time. during this window i'm sure MS coulda gone through all the patents quite easily. There's is no way they could allow them dominate a new market which (if the patent did exist) MS coulda dominated.

This has nothing to do with microsoft - one of their developers patented the menu. Also the patent was applied after the ipod was released so this is all bullshit.

Did any of you actually read the article?

This is like one of you guys patenting the menu and suddenly headlines like "MCDONALDS INVENTED IPOD" come out.
