...i ask myself, what was the fucking point ?

In past 2 weeks, I must have send more then +100 CV,,,,and I did not get a fucking single job interview *shrug*...i got 4 pages of emails saying NOPE.AVI....

if I..if I could just have A YEAR of experience..i could pretty much get any engineering job...but nobody wants to hire a noob...maybe if I were to get a job interview, I could pursue them to hire me...but I don't even get chance to do that...///shrug.,,

and CV, I sent, were not even for electrical engineer...i applied to any form of engeering..and tech support..not even assiociate tech support requires 2 yrs of experienice..shrug ;|..or even any job related that had word "computer" "engineer" "it" in it...

perhaps @Tainted can hook me up a place to live for a few days...CA is like a goldmine for entry level engineers Sad Very Happy

You just need to get a first job somewhere. Companies are too lazy to do adequate screening, so they will not hire you. When you get a first job somewhere, other companies will think 'well, he got hired somewhere else, so he must be ok', so they skip the extensive screening and pick you.

For some reason, those companies want you to go flat on your stomach, put your ass up and let them fuck you in the ass to get a job. You know, beeeg them for a job in the motivation letter. Show off your good points, what separates you from the other candidates. Just 'i have an engineering degree' won't do it, there are a zillion Chinese with engineering degrees.

I am 27 and have 2 masters (engineering and economics), a PhD, and teaching/research experience. It ain't easy to find a job you really like, but that's how the market it. I send out CVs and now and then I can go to screening interviews. I published scientific articles, they are public, they can read them, and yet, they let me make retarded exercises on the screening interviews. Do I like it? Hell no, I am wasting full days in companies doing really retarded shit like 'calculate growth rates using revenue in 2010 and 2011... (you know, revenue1-revenue2 / revenue2) Sometimes I really wonder what kind of people they get on screening interviews when those questions matter... But you have to play along...

I am currently involved in interviews with a big consultancy company, 9 interviews, 3 full days... During my PhD, i did some interviews with a large amount of companies to test my skills. I've had all sorts of interviews, all sorts of assessments, all sorts of bullshit. It's really amazing what a waste of time 90% of the recruitment processes is. Why? HR is retarded. Those psych muppets have no clue what technical profiles are. They have no clue what the company wants, they are just retarded. What's the best thing you can do? Contact someone from the company and ask them what the best way is to avoid HR... Wink

Oh, btw. 2 weeks is short. I finished my PhD in December and I still have a contract until September. I plan 6-9 months to find a nice job. You are just a number man, don't expect to find something in a matter of weeks... People are not waiting for their messias (=you) to arrive...

Take your CV to them. Seriously i did that and got an interview and within half hour they rang offering me the engineering job.

I was lucky they needed someone but hadn't yet advertised for the position. Granted i have years of experience in what they were doing, but this way they get to meet you and they know you are serious and motivated about getting work. And opportunities are not missed.

Not saying that instant job but considering my major give me a head start. I can tell you that 80% of people who start as engineers simply drop out in their first year.

I don't know how it is in different countries in Europe but frankly, here in US. Everything below middle(think south states during revolutionary war) is third country. Check out http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ and you will see what I mean. And this applies to so called south states. South states could be easily compared to third world countries but I think I am getting little off-topic here.

point is, I thought I would have some wager when getting a job but turns out I do not unless I am into nepotism

Yeah well - You should not forget that the world is pretty much in an economical crisis atm which means there is very few companies that recruit.

Edit: Btw, I love that page. I often visit it to laugh at the really weird people.

Im weird myself so Im allowed to do so! Cool Face

Sure you might have a PhD or masters, but you still fail to have real life experience. Every day I see job offers with "bachelors in engineering WITH 3 yrs of experience OR masters in engineering WITH 1yr of experience" How is that any different?

And I am sorry but I frankly don't live in third world country but in New York City, USA. ( Don't really want to sound like a douchebag with that sentence)

I think I have googled around over 100+ "engineering" companies from consulting to design to sales to everything. I have applied to practically every single one of them (even when they say, not hiring someone atm but in near future)

I meant that, I think I suppose to have some advantage over people who get their degree in "Psychology or English" majors.

Two weeks may not be that much for you people, when I am pretty sure college is free in plenty of european countries. Right now, I am easily siting in XXK worth of student loans, and that is only B.Sc. Imagine me getting MSc, my loans would be easily hit XXXK range. Because getting Masters Degree is fucking expensive.

What is the point of spending so much money on a degree that can't get a job?

Interest rates are adding up, so are bills and everything else.

"Third world country" Laughing
The US would happily give their ass to be in the financial situation that Belgium is right now...

Anyway, try and find a part/full time job anywhere (preferably on your studies area) and keep looking.
Look into internships too (unfortunately for you the non-paid ones seem to be more popular over there Twisted Evil) or see if anyone you know can get you a "hook up".

Whatever you do, DO NOT spend more time with masters/PHD's/whatever degrees right now.

Actually, here in Sweden we take loans aswell. The actual education is free - but people still have to live so they take loans. My gf has aprox the same amount of loans like you do and she still isnt finished. (Biomedical Analysis or something like that...DNA and stuff)

What? I am pretty sure, she does not have $150,000 in loans like average student pursuing theirs "Master Degree" in US.

Good lucking paying $150k off with awesome 8% interest rate. Over 10 years you will easily have to pay back $250K or more.

Not sure, how many weeks I can keep telling myself that. And Obama that douche is not helping either, but I think positively each day. I applied to almost every single "Computer" related position, from support to system engineer to some kind of entry level electrical position, or interships with @Bloomberg, @IBM, @Motorola Mobility. It has been a week since I have applied with no word back. *shrug*

You wrote XXK = $20.000 Wink
That's what she's got left to pay - but she's on a temporary break from her studies so it will proberbly be another 20k laters.

But $150,000 is nothing we get in loans for study here...or atleast its very rare. I suppose its all depending on how much you wanna study.

Edit: Tbh I now realize that your XXK was just to show that it was much and not a specific number Smile

Edit: btw - just shows that everything is possible in US....as long as you got money Razz

Well $20.000, I would asume you are talking about twenty dollars. It's either 20K=Twenty Thousand Dollars or 20,000 which also equals twenty thousands dollars while 20.000 simply equal 20 dollars. Sorry for the confusion. It's just the way it is.

Notice that Americans use , (comma) instead of .(dot) to diffrienciate between thousands.

$150K=$150,000. It is on average how much "English Major" student have to take in loans. On average an "Engineering" major student has to take at least twice as much as "English" major student"

btw talking about "Masters" degree above.

But I am confident, eventually I will find a job, even tho it might be an entry level but it still is something.

My point was, is just, perspectives are not looking all that great at all. Most of my friends graduated from college in May 2012 and let's say 30 of them STILL ARE UNEMPLOYED. In addition to people who graduated in December 2012, brings another 20 students who are looking for a job with no experience at all.

That means, 50 people are looking to fill 1 level entry position. Considering how much "more", I have had to put to my studies ( compared to english or psychology major)..well is just lol wut lol wut lol wut

But today will be a new days, new fresh of jobs posted and I may get lucky. Never stop believing, I keep myself!.
