I don't know... Its not that I did not wish to finish the game, I tried 3 times to go through it, but every time I got bored to death at some point. On the other hand I have replayed Fallout 3 five times now and I am ready for number 6.
Probably its the atmosphere. I really dislike the cowboy theme (not only in this game), the country music, the desert, as mentioned above, and of course the smaller map. The map in Fallout 3 was great, huge and everytime I replayed the game I found something new.

Its weird how a theme can ruin the game (as a whole, not only in this game), cause I am a huge fan of the genre.

I rather have Bethesda do it.. while they dont make great characters or story they have far better designers than tiny Obsidian could ever dream of.. I really liked the different cities and stuff in FO3, quite fun game to explore. FO:NV was terrible in that regard, New Vegas region almost made me quit the game because it was so sloppy and bland. I play open world games for exploration and doing my own adventures, not for story or characters..

Same here. Smile

Exploration, the atmospheric feel of the world, the diversity and dynamic systems of the NPC's and world itself are the factors that define for me a good open ended gaming experience.

I thought that FO: NV was clearly better than FO3, but I absolutely love FO3 too.

So with either Bethesda or Obsidian this new game will be a win-win for me. So Much Win
Probably even going to... pre-order it Poker Face

I have never really liked the newer Fallout games. I played through Fallout 3 and it was okay. I haven't tried NW though, I hear it's better than FO3 so maybe I should give it a go.

Agree completely. Fallout 3 felt like a Wasteland. The open-ended map felt much larger because you could go off in any direction. Unlike the FO:NV map, which was little more than a U-shaped tunnel, and didn't offer much in the way of exploration.

Sure, Obsidian creates excellent characters, and really nails the voice acting, but Bethesda did a decent enough job in that area. More importantly, Bethesda knows how to make a world that you can truly explore for a long time.

FO:NV really lost me with the Securitrons, though. A uni-wheel robot with a computer monitor showing a cartoon face of a soldier? I'm sorry, but I couldn't take those seriously. Really pulled me out of the game whenever I saw one of those derpy robots.

FO3 remained on my hard drive over the years mostly so I could jump in the game and just roam around the wasteland (with mods of course!). Clover always in tail, like the good brainwashed psycho she was, I was always amazed at how I would continually find things in the FO3 world even years after its release. No one designs that sense of explorations better than Bethesda.

Bring on Fallout 4!

Yeah I hope Bethesda does it, too. I like FO3 more than NV for the same reasons stated previously. But I felt that Skyrim, while being a good game, suffered in quality when compared to most modern games. So lets hope they don't deliver us a poorly executed rush job full of bugs and cut corners.

Hoping for a bug-free Bethesda game equals to believing in space dinosaurs. Reaction

Unlike Obsidian's NV which was bugfree?

I always seem to get lucky with these types of games, pretty much bug free.

Of course it might be because I don't play it like some certain assholes ("OMGZ I shot this character for the lulz and nbot when I finish the mission he gave me nothing happens wtf? Mad").

Or because I don't use fast travel. Fuck Yeah

I'd wish for Obsidian to do it, but somehow I think it's gonna be Bethesda. I don't particularly dislike Bethesda's version, but Obsidian's games are so full of personality in comparison to Bethesda's blander, more generic vision. I also prefer a smaller world with a high content density than a large, empty landscape with generic "loot caves" filled with a certain type of monsters with treasure in the end. Unique locations with their own stories that intersect with other locations are much more interesting.

The problem for me is that FO3 and NV are the opposite sides of a spectrum. FO3 does have a big world at first glance, but it is completely generic and bland. NV on the opther hand has interesting locations and characters, but there's so much crammed into a very small space, that it feels semi-linear and totally kills exploration. Now if they can find some middle road (Beth can create interesting worlds and Obsidian can populate those worlds with interesting things), it'll be classic.

No! Mad

That way we'd lose two great games in favor of only one (assuming that something like NV will happen again, which I really hope it does).

I'd say "merge you fuckers!" too in the past since I think if any publisher will give Obsidian freedom it'd be Beth, but now that Kickstarter is here I'll say "hell no!".

I had the same sensation and I think it's natural. Fallout 3 was the better open world sandbox game while New Vegas was definitely the better RPG.

Mister_s is right. My personal dislike of the fucked up game mechanics aside, FO3 may have had the space for an epic adventure, it sure as hell didn't do anything with it.

Some rumours (take them with a bag of salt of course Razz):

Quote:

First and foremost, the game will take place in Boston, and be kind of a direct sequel to Fallout 3 with a few groups returning.

From what it sounds like, “The Institute” is pretty much the downtown DC or New Vegas of this game. Boston is going to be unlike anything we’ve seen in a Fallout game before, with buildings more on par with cyberpunk and retro-futurism.

Androids play a big part in this game. The railroad from Fallout 3 is a faction. The enemies of the railroad is “the Plantation” — a group who force Androids to farm so that Humans can get food. The Institute is highly advanced and probably obtained or built their own GECK to start a farm.

Due to complaints about using Super Mutants and the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 3 excessively and going against the lore too much, Bethesda has decided to avoid using these groups. Bethesda wants to make a new “race” (think Ghoul, Super Mutant) which will be central to Boston. Bethesda is currently looking at Lovecraftian fiction since Boston is around “Lovecraft Country”.

Bethesda has no plans to reinvent the leveling up system to make it more like Skyrim and want to make Fallout 4 more distinct from Skyrim since of the complaints that Oblivion and Fallout 3 were too similar. Bethesda is thinking about introducing a system, similar to Skyrim, where your skills can level up if you perform certain tasks.

Hmmm... interesting. Now I would love to see seasons implemented in this game, I mean like having snowy winters (characteristic of the mentioned region) and and a drier wasteland during the summer, etc.
