Thing is, my company's moving to development on the WP8 platform as well, yes, we can talk about the risks involved, I know the data, and so far it's only two people of my entire workforce, so it's not that big of a loss, if it doesn't pay off. Anyway, we bought a few devices for testing purposes, we are still missing Samsung from the lineup.
Point is, I have been using the Lumia 920 for about a week now, and ... no matter, what tech journos say, this is is a very solid device, pun intended. The weight and dimension problems are over analyzed, for a person of my build it is not bad. Sure, would I like the form design of the HTC 8x on it? Yes. But I decided on the nokia one for the hardware.
The hardware is solid. It's far from top end hardware, with Android devices rocking better performing chips, but it gets the job done, however Nokia's display technology is nothing short of brilliant. Take any device with good internals, compare scrolling to a Lumia 920, and you'll instantly see (if you're a gamer, that is), that the puremotion technology is not just a marketing trick. Although tech journos covered Lumia's camera thoroughly, which I give exactly zero fucks about, the display tech barely got mentioned, and my most honest opinion is: it's by far the best display on a mobile device to date. Sure, we can discuss about the saturation of the colors, they are not as saturated as Samsung's displays, and some people love Samsung's tuning.
On the software front: yeah, there aren't enough apps, and yes, not having direct access to the file structure has no excuse, and I hate the OS for that.
However the hub centric UX is great. If you use the MS ecosystem - few people do - then this is by far the most integrated, fastest OS. I was very skeptical of WP8, but they won me over on this front. I also like the tile UI, although developers aren't really taking advantage of it fully yet. I think many developers simply don't get the design philosophy.
Overall, I am impressed with certain parts of the package, but unless WP8 evolves and innovates at a steady rate, I will shortly be back on Android, my preferred mobile OS.

The new WP8 phones aren't bad.
The only "problem" is that most of the phones in the same price range only differ by manufacturer since the software itself has some serious requirements.
What I personally don't like is that WP is designed for people who want to stay connected with every friend they have. I mean that they link all the fb, mail etc stuff together.

iPhone 5 display is better, but it's a solid display too.
The problem is the OS. Design philosophy  "Don't open apps, just look at fucking tiles all day". After some time on Windows 8 and testing WP7 and 8, I can honestly say what a retarded piece of shit this tile business is. It is original, this I agree - it wasn't for nothing that Apple brought WP7 in the Apple vs Samsung trial. But original does not mean better. It's ugly, joyless and horrible.

the sole reason i will not buy any windows phone is for crap windows limitation.
after those years, i still don't have sip service. (not free anyway, there are some tied with a phone service).
even the shit symbian have free untied sip.
fuck them.
i love my lumia, and i still have some hope for it and sip, but for sure i will not probably buy another wp ever. i will learn to develop stuff for apple when i have some free time and i'm bored of c#.

do you see any wp aplication ? no.
everyone have android/iphone versions, few have wp ones. and not only for authentificators.
and not because they are hard to program. some years ago i wanted a wow pet (you get one by activating an autentificator on your account) and din't had a smartphone, i made myself a very rough version of one which was running on pc.
at this moment, assuming i have a api documented, i can probably make a full working one in 3-4 days top. and i'm not a power programmer. so why shitgames like swtor (which basically are begging people to play their shit game) don't have it ? because it is an ignored platform. and that was not changed in 2 years, and will not change in near future. and that is the case with a lot of usual/trivial/simple programs which you will not find on wp. things you can usually make in 1-2 weeks top. but you dont want to, because is a waste of time and effort.

You really cannot see how much of a fanboy you've become? Just because you work with apple, doesn't mean you need to go and be all: Apple is teh best
