I installed once again WP8 on my new SSD. And for some reason, it kept installing and detecting onboard video card but it's disabled in the bios. Everytime I would uninstall it or disable it on Device Manager, after reboot it would install automatically...couldn't play a single game lol

I switched back to win7.

Not sure why it was still recognizing onboard video card even tho it was disabled in the BIOS and notoriously auto-installing drivers...

automic driver instalation is all fine for plug and play devices but for rest not so much.

I think low sales and awful reviews tell Microsoft exactly that - that people are not happy.

When this happened with Vista, Microsoft worked their ass off to improve things and present the new Vista (Windows 7) in good light.

But how do you present a new Windows 8 in good light? It is possible (multiple Metro apps running in windows, start menu on desktop, etc), but that won't happen.

Maybe Microsoft may release an update in the future so you can choose what you want, metro or not. Anyways I still think Microsoft should of gave you the option when you create a new user before booting in if you want the start button.

Won't happen, already the new Windows team leader (the one that replaced Sinofsky) already said that Windows 9 won't have a start menu.

At the end of the day there should be a choice weather or not to have a Start button or Start screen. Let people ease into the new Windows over a little time not just throw them in the deep end. Not everyone is a tech guru and enjoys to fiddle around.

I'm yet to find any of my real world friends who actually like Windows 8. All of them generally say it's not for them and got a copy of 7 and wiped 8 of their systems forever.

I understand that some people will say that it's easy to understand/use. Hell I find it easy to use etc but even I don't like it. People are use to the Start button for example, know where their programs are and most just click on their start button and navigate to their program. Simple. Having to actually type in the name of the program you want to run is a pain. What happens when you want to run something that you've not run for a while and you forget the damn name ? Give me the Start button any day. Least I can have a mooch threw it until I remember the name of the program I'm looking for. The only thing I ever really type into the Start button is cmd. Can't really think of anything else lol.

Yes there are addon programs that place a Start button for Windows 8 and that's great but there should be an option Microsoft has in place to choose between Start screen / Start button.

Why do you have to type in the name of the program?

Personally I love the new start menu!
I start my applications 3 times faster than with the old start menu..
I even think the old start menu was shit for easily starting applications, I hardly used it anymore and created shortcuts on my taskbar

Just group your apps and make some nice icons with oblytile app (xda forum), and it's practical and beautiful Smile

Ow, and what I also did, was assign the windows key to my middle mouse button: also a nice idea, say so myself..

second try to move to win 8 as main o.s. failed

still having system lock ups.. may be related to flash videos, maybe hardware acceleration. Also the netflix app didn't work no matter what, gave some drm error.

i'll give it a another try when Amd releases an update to the "legacy radeon", or if i upgrade my vga before that.

Is there a point they're trying to make? I see it as a big fuck you with the removal of the start menu, and i would not be surprised if they make an effort for the next OS so that applications such as startisback won't work.

I'm using this now (since the other won't work), but i cannot import it into premiere pro to edit and convert it Neutral Premiere pro 5.5 only sees them as audio files...
This is done on a win7 pc, with the codec installed... Anyway know what could cause this?

You grab the RTM. I recommend looking for wz0r's releases since they're the original, untouched and unmodified in any way MS iso images. After that you update the windows via WU.

And don't use any activators/loaders. Activate windows by yourself via Command Propmpt.

"Activate windows by yourself via Command Prompt." -- I'm reading on a Hungarian Tracker that the method does not work anymore

Or Do you mean that KMS activator ?

I see this version - Windows 8 Pro x64 en-US with WMC patch Jan2013

The method works as long as you have an active KMS server.

Just grab the release I posted, activate it and, if you wish, install the updates. They don't break anything.

You just execute these commands consecutively in CP (don't forget, though, that for the Pro version you'll need keys for both the installation and activation; only the Enterprise version requires none):
Code:
slmgr.vbs -ipk <KEY>
slmgr /skms <KMS SERVER>
slmgr.vbs -ato

That's it. You're good to go for 180 days. After that period, you repeat the above steps again (or at any time for that matter).

I already posted the recommended version. This is the Enterprise version if you want to have it all - MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.ENTERPRISE.RTM.X64.VOLUME.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT

You activate Windows for 180 days after that method. You'll have a fully working Windows OS with no restrictions. Once the period expires, you repeat the steps again. I highly doubt that 2-3 commands in CP will break your day. Rolling Eyes I don't know - this method is quite simple to follow, and yet we have people complaining they'll have to do it in the future again. Laughing

It's the best method out there. And probably the only one so far, since all the currently-available activators are on the same principle but they have a disadvantage of you not actually knowing what they additionally change/tinker within the OS. That's why the Command Prompt way is preferable one because you execute known Windows commands by yourself.

under the hood it has many improvements and optimizations, so it's a better and more stable OS as a whole, but it got bad reputation solely because of it's looks.

Sort of like the fat girl people keep telling you to date because "but shes got a nice personality underneath!" Laughing
And mine wasnt based "Solely" on looks, I tried to like it for about 2 weeks.. couldn't do it. felt like an windows OS designed by fisher price for blind people, and my grandmother.

I see it the other way around.
They made lots of improvements under the hood, polished up the engine, then gave you a stick and a roll of duct tape to use as controls to drive this new race car with.

Im still waiting to hear about these' many improvements and optimatizations' in detail.. Everyone speaks in generalities and gives no details.

So far, everything I read windows 8 is a total bust.

I actually like how the built in Defrag program will now 'optimize' ones SSD drives executing the Trim command, if the drive supports it, nice little thing to have at the touch of a button Smile

It is lightning quick, compared to 7, dunno how, but it is definitely a lot more responsive. I'm using Chrome browser on it, and by god its quick. System starts in seconds also (and yes I had Win7 on my SSD).

I was a hater a few weeks ago, but I'm beginning to change my view Shocked Once you get it setup properly, it ain't really that bad. 99.9% of my time is spent in the Desktop though, so the new Start UI gets little use from me.
