hi,
just got a galaxy ace for my gf daughter... how can she download stuff for free... bit like i can on my jailbroken iphone.
i know you cant jailbreak android but im sure theres a way... or do i just download a .apk and copy it straight to her mem card?

Some of them have extra protection and may require additional stuff.

You have to root it..there are tons of guides on the net for that.
For example:
http://theunlockr.com/2012/11/22/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830/
Then you can just download an apk file and install it from the memcard or internal storage.

There is no need for jailbreaking. From the app drawer (menu) go to settings>applications and check Unknown Sources. Other than that, if you want to install something such as a screenshot tool or root explorers (she won't need it) you will need to root the device, which is fairly easy, as posted earlier.
Installing apps afterwards is piss easy, just copy the .apk to the sd card and install it from any file explorer (such as ES File Explorer, it can be found on Google Play). Also, the Internet is chock full of packs which feature paid apps and so on.

so i just enable unknown sources and then download files and transfer to her sd card?
