I got no such error. All i did when i started the game was to allow all connections for it. Keep in mind that it was for the hamachi NIC it asked and not my regular NIC.

I've always liked using just 1 char for DS, so I did the same with this one. Elven combat mage, fire tree, also pumping the nature magic skill which reduces spell cost. Very rarely dying. Will probably throw in some fast cast later on.

Yep i found a solution with a friend.
I used Hamachi and Sygate Personal Firewall.
Install both.
Reboot.
Enter Advanced rules and add the DS2 exe file.
Deny all traffic for your Internet NIC on Dungeonsiege2.exe.
And allow it on your Hamachi NIC.
Set up a Personal Network with Hamachi (really really there is a tutorial when you first start it).
Let your friends do the same and go play LAN.
DS2 seems to have something that sends information (on various ports it changes all the time just use Active Ports to look at it) to something either way if it's able to connect to the net it wont allow you to play thru Hamachi. I bet it works with other LAN emulators if you disable the Connection for DS2. But i used Hamachi and it worked fine. |
Interesting. I'm going to use the Windows Firewall instead so I don't have to install any of that crap (hate firewalls). I blocked DS2.exe and I unfirewalled the VPN connection. My buddy is going to try your way. Do you get an error when you go into LAN saying that DS2 is blocked? |
Is it possible to block outgoing internet access using WinXP's built-in firewall?

All you need is Himachi, we did it with the firewall and then removed the firewall and its still working fine.

Yeah, but I'm asking how to do it without firing up the firewall in the first place. Whenever I use Hamachi and try to connect to LAN, it tells me my name is in use, no matter what name I pick.

No, this is long before this.
It's between the first teleporter you find and the second one. Before you even find Hrawn the Haku and the trapped Dryad.
Its at like a corner, you're walking forward and you have to go left or there is a cliff ahead of you. On the right there is a wall, and if you look at the map it clearly heads up somewhere, but I can't find anyway through that wall. Clicking the other side gives no path. There doesn't seem to be any bricks, levers, etc That would let you through.
I'll try and get a screenshot.

This game has a few bugs, but I really do enjoy the ranger system and its ease...I never usually play as an archer when it comes to rpg's, but this one makes it feel like im playing as a warrior - in terms of skill and gaining skill

Woot, beat the game
My take on it all is that DS2 is truly a great game. It will be interesting to see how the the next difficulty is made.
My thoughts and tips:
I did all the subquests for act1 except that womans doll quest, missed four on act2 and two on act3. The most tedious by far was the restless spirit quest, but the reward for each ghost is nice and the reward for the last one.. wow
I played with Taar as a ice-specialized nature mage, Vix as a sharpshooting ranger, Lothar as a shield-tank hp-monster and myself as a dual wielding light-tank. After the final battle i landed at level 43.
In my opinion the powers are a bit overpowered, especially the ranger and dual-wield ones. Fun, but it gets a little too easy. And talking about easy, i felt in the begging of the game that it was ALOT harder than DS1 but after a while (probably halfway into act1) it all got too easy. I died with my whole group twice in the whole time i played the game, both of those times were in act1 between chap1 and chap5 or so.
Another thing that is just too damn easy is the cash-management. Same here, at the beginning of the game you are always short on cash and you always see some stuff you wanna buy. Post act1 i always had the best equipment the merchants could offer. That is kind of boring to be honest. I had over one million gold at the end of the game and nowhere to spend it.
Item sets are really nice but i really dislike the way they drop numerous times. The same item i mean. I think i've had almost ten pairs of archer-boots, cant remember the name, Finesse-something. Same goes for the low-level nature set, vigilante, think i've had all of those items ten times over. I guess i could go along with sets dropping more than once but when UNIQUE objects do it as well, meh.
It's all a random generator i know but you'd think they could have put some parameters in there. I guess its because they want people in multiplayer-games to be able to have the same items or i dunno.
Whoa, alot of rambling, ill check back later when i've played veteran some
Oh and by the way. You can do all the sidequests after you beat Valdis, the world is still there

the name issue comes if ds2.exe is connected to internet (sometimes)... some friends of mine claimed they played with VPN and when i tried it did not work, that was a combination with battle.lan and vpn. blan to get into the lobby where without getting the name issue and then start vpn to find the game.... but it stopped working... In the readme it says something about having issues finding games with two network adapters activated but i dunno... might be something else. I have to use the fw to block it otherwise it wont allow me due to "nickname" in use and otherwise i wont find created games.

Something odd here, using the Reloaded release I managed to get a game running on the local LAN once (simply launched with crack, hosted with pc1, joined with second, luanched, and that was it), but since it wont work again, i host n launch and then its just a black screen with the ds2 cursor and nothing else happening. I tried all manners to get it going again, with crack/without crack and cd mounted, net connection on/off, hosting alone, with the 2nd puter connected..nothing. Anyone have an idea wtf is up ?
Using win XP pro and Win2k pro for 2nd puter, wireless lan, through router.

This game is... well not what i've expected. The first was way more fun. Kinda makes me want to delete it and play the good old neverwinter nights where items don't come that cheap and easy (enemies too).

Neverwinter Nights makes me wanna delete it and install This where the levels are handcrafted rather than 4 different types of blocks put together like a puzzle in various ways (halo library level anyone?)
