Just got a new mobo, but there was no IDE slot on it, so now the whole thing sits idle until i can get my hands on a sata-ide coverter, which wont be for at least 2-3 days. Damn Windows wont boot because of the new stuff. Time to go back to the old mobo for now i guess. Sad

Yeah IDE is dead. Slow speeds and ribbon cables are bad.

Well, as it turns out, what my father believed to be an IDE drive in his rig was a SATA after all. I'll make a pendrive boot eventually, but for now, I'm happy the way things are. Smile

Be prepared that SATA to IDE converter might not work with your optical drive, bridges in those things are usually optimized for hard drives (although ATAPI standardized this, but theory is one thing and practice is another).

I might simply just get a new optical drive, but yeah, apart from the occasional win reinstall, I rarely-to-never use DVDs any more. When I get around to making that USB boot, I might as well get a plastic cover for the slot my DVD now occupies. Very Happy
