yeah i decided to bite the bullet and borrow some cash, and my payment has been confirmed. better come through, gamersgate
seriously, this is a batshit crazy deal... if it wasnt for the fact the deal is STILL up and running (they must have ordered a bunch of keys for it), id swear this was a mistake.

lol yer, megatexturing... interesting concept, i liked the fact that they could organically paint the level as a whole, but the low resolution textures make it a really mixed bag.
good idea, not so great execution.
good game though! story handling aside...
and no i dont think they'll revoke the keys. you've paid for them, and you've paid a significant amount. its not like it was 5 cents, which would be an OBVIOUSLY bs amount that purchasers should have known was a mistake... its 30ish bucks.
and its not like using the key will make it safe. IF they decide to revoke the deal, they reverse the payment, and steam (as is the case in fraudulent purchases) removes the game from your account anyway

well a lot of people 'raged' against it, thats for sure... a lot of people were also very unkind to it, partly because of bad marketing, unfairly high expectations - also unfair expectations and comparisons, and just general shittyness... also it had a REALLY bad launch.
the biggest negative is that its got a poor story. kinda badly delivered, and the ending is just... its like they ran out of time and said fuck it. i found the story to START getting kinda interesting in the second half, but they didnt keep it up, and it just felt like an afterthought. i think because of the lack of story, all thats really left is a kinda fetch-quest focused game, which can be really hard to get into. the other big problem is that id spent too much time adding fluff, like mini-games and open world driving to the mix, which was half-baked and dragged the game down a bit. in fact, i think the driving stuff is another one of the problems with rage and why people didnt like it... the driving made the game seem like a wannabe open world game, kinda like fallout 3. and as such, i know a lot of people compared those two games, and found rage to be totally shallow in comparison. thing is, rage never intended to be open world... so its an unfair comparison that made a lot of people rip into it.
now.. the GOOD...
if you just accept it for what it TRUELY is, which is a linear good ol' SHOOTER, then its utterly fantastic. this game is just so satisfying as a fps - ignore all the silly questing and false open-world shit and go into it wanting a shooter, and youll love it. the weapons feel great, the shooting is tight and fun, the levels are well designed and have great detail, the enemy animations when they attack or get hit are so satisfying and fun to watch... its a GREAT shooter.
the graphics are a mixed bag. the textures are unfortunately pretty shitty, BUT if you kinda... i dont want to say 'unfocus your eyes', but if you just kinda look past the sharpness and try to take in the levels as a whole, and just enjoy the organic design of it, then the game is actually quite good looking.
--
so yeah... tldr: shit story, unfair comparisons and insanely high expectations, are the negatives, and damn fine fucking fun shooting mechanics and shooter gameplay are the positives.
cant say this enough: go into it and play it as a linear shooter and NOT an open world exploration game (only when i did this on my SECOND attempt to play the game did i actually start enjoying myself and finish it) and you could very well find yourself enjoying it.
kinda wrote more than i intended to here but this is a very contentious game. some people (like me) found a lot to like in this REALLY flawed game... but probably MOST hated the shit out of it, and i think its because they didnt want to give it a chance, or look past the failings to see the great stuff underneath that id can do so well.

Too bad that it was marketed as an open world game, chivette (AFAIK)

I'm playing it (better late than never) as we speak and for me is quite the opposite. The more I play, the less I enjoy it. It's a consolish hybrid full of invisible corridors, fake freedom and not even the shooting feels that good if you ask me. And I won't even comment on the story (??)

Yup, far from being a complete disaster, just not even remotely as good as we all hoped I guess. It has nothing unique that makes me keep playing.
I blame Carmack's revolutionary (in an Apple-ish way) ideas and 'nextgen' consoles.

thats kinda my point... 'fake freedom'.. id should never have pretended that it was open, i think right off the bat that set a lot of people against it unfortunately. badly marketed and some really silly half-baked ideas in the game that should have been removed, but i honestly believe id just kinda gave up at the end and said fuckit. maybe they couldnt see a way out? how to 'fix' it without throwing out the bulk of what theyd done and starting again? thats what the game feels like
its a pity you dont like the shooting... i thought it was fantastic seeing enemies stumble and react to impacts, or slicing their heads off or sending them flying backwards with a shotgun, or pinning them to walls with an arrow... found it an incredibly cathartic game... shooting and getting visual feedback... was so satisfying in a way i just havent gotten from most other current shooters.
i kinda found that once i managed to get that open world idea out of my head, and OVER the hump of the first.. i dunno... HALF of the first towns shitty sidequests, that i started enjoying it more and more.. the opening quarter/third i really found to be quite a slog.
but like i said, very contentious game...
i DO know that id welcome a sequel, if id actually LEARNS its lessons from rage. though i dont really believe there ever will be a sequel.

Well if nothing else id should excel at the shooting part given their history, but otherwise it sounds like a mediocre game, or perhaps more accurately a competent mediocre game.
From reading your posts Chiv, it actually reminds me of Metro 2033 for some reason.
lolozaur, did you close your topic on Steamgiifts for the Bethesda deal or did a mod do it?

But didn't you find it a bit too easy, chiv?
That was (and still is) my main problem with it.
Maybe I should have chosen hard over normal, but most of the game is a cakewalk.
The authority is mildly challenging but they're not as frequent in the wasteland as most of the other enemies.

yeah... i never really found the game 'hard', i guess thats down to its console roots...
or maybe its just because i discovered how to make exploding shotgun shells.... damn but those were fun!
but i guess to me the lack of challenge was outweighed by the fun i found i was having from the combat, especially the visual feedback to my shooting.
