should have a invite only type feel. where users who are actively active for more than 3 months can view it.
that is all.

See, its an interesting point. I agree that making it "invite only" isn't right, but I suspect that's not exactly what Waldo has in mind. The reality is we could up the post count until the issue stops, but that would exclude a number of active, contributing members of the community who deserve access as much as someone with 5k, 10k, 40k posts.
A better system would be a well maintained group in which members gain access at a specified point (a post count for example) but can also be granted upon proof of contribution. Now it is more likely that the members being granted access would be a one time deal at the start of the section to ensure that people currently here, participating don't lose out, but there is no reason a system like that couldn't work. We just need to be sure we don't make it a "buy in" type system, thats no good for the community.
Either way the way the activity we are currently seeing is exactly what the section was designed to avoid, so something needs to change. People acting like that devalues the community and creates anger/frustration between members. It needs to end, hopefully we'll see some change soon.

The post count thingie is good tho. Not sure if 500 is the right number but I think it is good.
The sharing section sohuld be for everyone(above) who want to get rid of their keys/games. And hunters who are first just get the key.
not posting a thanks comment would result in ban if there was to be a rule
Cmon Waldo. Don't nazi all over again | Right, right... and how would they be banned?

Maybe some javascript that interacts with ctrl + c and auto bans?

Sure, event.preventdefault(), catch event of CTRL+C send session id to server over ajax.
And sure thing do it for the right mousebutton click too, emulate the menu for text selection and send that session id to the server too!

No on invite only. The current system works, all you have to do is send the key via PM after an interested party has made a post in the thread, instead of straight up posting the key.

But to each his own, if people want to post their keys and risk a hit and run they should be able to do so.

I agree, but we do have some greedy scoundrels here.
I would prefer if it was mainly PM oriented so that people would who actually do want get game actually have a shot at getting it. But we're tremendously generous around here, and we get burned by that as do the few honest lads.
Either way the section is pretty gosh darn fantastic
@kc i mean nothing like steamgifts, i just mean that more active users would be able to participate in the greatness of the awesome rather than have every single user gain access to it over time. Something like the vip section but with not as harsh of a process of selection. I had no idea there was a 500 post limit to see the section.

Not sure how much control over the forum code mrt has...
but maybe its possible to add a spoiler type object called 'gamekey', that works like Garus plugin? when you go to open it, it asks "are you sure you want the key" and if you hit yes..
then it tags under the 'spoiler' with who opened it? like "Key grabbed by DXWarlock"
And let ALL users see the area, but only X posts (like now) can open the key spoiler.
So that way only active people can get the key, we know its been taken and by who, to stop anonymous mass grabbing.
and its not in PM's where you have to wait until they are around to get it and the poster having to remember to update it was given out. to stop from getting 10 Pm's by the time you are home to PM it to someone.
Had that happen on my thq bundle, Posted it, and got 4 PM's..so feel bad for the 3 that was hoping they was the only one, but too late.

I personally think, 500 posts is still too low.
750-1000 would be more like it, going upwards with 500(?) every xx months? So we flush out those that quickly get those posts in order to see the section and just be there to ninja keys.

When and why did u changed the posts count from 500 to 850 !? Are u kidding me !? 500 was just fine, 850 its insane! Im active, but im not that type of guy who could post soooo much, i like to read and only when i have trully something to say - post.
I think that u really need to overthink that new section rules, cuz its just too damn chaotic that whole situation!

The gifter should just handle it via PM. I don't see what the big deal is. The gifter will know who he gave the key to and the one on the other hand will most likely thank the gifter via PM. Whether someone places a big "OH YOU ROCK THANK U SO MUCH!!!!" openly afterwards is his business.
Invite only and/or mandatory high post count requirements are just stupid. Just put it on 100 to prevent new regs getting in.
