There are some PS threads already, but they are either scattered all over the Humps; or dedicated to some particular requests, releases, cracks, etc.
So I wanted to create one, where people would be able to discuss freely how to actually work with the application, provide some tips and tricks, feedback, support, share their knowledge, ideas, and ofc post the results of their highly imaginative artistic visions.
At the beginning, I would like to post a link to a certain site with great tutorials.
Incredibly detailed, yet very simple and easy to understand tutorials covering various aspect of this complex application. I'm actually surprised that all this is available for free.
One of these days I should really find all the stuff that I've been making and put them together for the ultimate collection of insanity, like the chaotic creation of a crazy mind xD
The fact that there's not even one normal pic in it makes me ponder
@Interinactive Well, I understand your point of view. Nonetheless, it depends on what you mean by tutorial. If you have a broad knowledge of all the tools and how things work, then yes - trying to figure out how to do stuff on your own is the preferable approach I would say.
The thing is, I had completely no knowledge whatsoever. So reading all these texts explaining what layer masks are, how to use pen tool to create selections, or quickly align a few objects within a document are really helpful. Well, at least for me. I need to get a hang of some very basic stuff first, to then be able to start experimenting on my own.
And yes! I would very much appreciate if you linked a few galleries with free high-resolution pictures that just beg to be photoshopped. Some nice backgrounds, objects being easy to cut out, etc... Everything a newbie could use for training.
@ixigia Don't be shy! Go ahead! Post! What's the worst that can happen?

I guess you have to be the problem solver type of guy to be successful in most things. Learn your tools of course but using them creatively and with great focus and detail when neccesary is the key to success:) Oh and taking a step back, look at what other, greater minds did and trying to find the same solutions should also help a lot
Oh btw moved this to general section, the uv is not suited for this sort of discussion.
At first I was like: "What the hell happened?!"
Spoiler:
One of the first more complex objects to be ever cut out by me.
Very amateurish, but good for start. (Was practising selecting with magnetic lasso tool. Well, it was actually magnetic lasso + quick mask + ordinary lasso for refining.)
Currently, I assigned Ctrl + D, increase DPI and decrease DPI to my mouse buttons. After gaining some more experience, will see what to do next.
I hadn't been expecting photoshop to be that complex before getting started. This shit is overwhelming at times.

Not tutorials for tools, those always make sense (and if I ever do get stuck, a Youtube video always comes in handy)
That's what I'm learning right now - tutorials for tools.

^ If I have Buddha's statue selected, so... it would be Invert Selection -> few pixels Feather, right?
its when you have the marching ants if i remember you can then feather by so many pixels its been a while because I dont manually do it much no more, I use about 3 different masking plugins to make things go faster and usually much better than I could probably do
Or you can use erase background tool, it does the trick quite good, altho usually you need to clear the 'residue'.
Hmmm masking plugins... I'll have to look into that
There are a ton of good and not so good ones, and very few great ones, but those do exist, they all do sim job of course but its about how cranky you are with the way its done and how acceptable the results are to the individual I guess.
Long winded way but good information from russell brown here...CS5 and CS6 have the same good tools btw so dont knock it
and if you want a tool that does wispy hair try out the latest Topaz ReMask. Older video here but effective none the less.
A fair few swear by Mask PRO as well not sure what the latest version is right now but I grabbed a ton of free top line plugins off the "where's briana banks.org" << work that out urself were not allowed links right lol..
The trouble with a fair few tutorials as well ive noticed even from some of the top video tutorial people use stock images that have a pretty good flat colour background when doing hair strands.. It sort of negates to me the whole tutorial point due to any dark back background of uniform one at least is easy to mask out..
Edit: just looked at what plugins im using right now:
BLow UP 3
Eye Candy 6
Color Efex Pro 4
HDR Efex Pro 2
Define 2.0
Sharpener Pro 3.0
Silver Efex Pro 2
Viveza 2
@garus I know. That's what I was doing... however, decontaminating colors makes the hair become transparent. Don't know what's going on. Probably have fucked something up.
@VonMisk Thanks! I'll try that after having finished 'Making selections with Pen Tool' classes.
Spoiler:
I hate that fucking thing!
Spoiler:
I really do! But have to finally learn it anyway.

Usually when I have to select stuff I follow the peasant way, Quick-selecting the object that I need feathering it a bit and then manually editing it with the erasing tool..it's longer but that's just because I've never read tutorials, since I prefer going by trial and error
(which is the reason why I dropped CE during my first year, I was too wild for all the strict programming rules )
