WOW. It takes like 2 seconds. Big friggin deal. I just click the Half-Life 2 icon on my desktop, it says it's starting up and a couple of seconds later I'm in the game. Hell I find Steam better than cd-checks cause you don't even need a CD in to play it! Even cd-checks I don't care for. All I have to do is get the cd which is right in front of me and put it in. Or it's already in the drive.

Simply isn't true. You want it to be true, but it isn't.

I think the problem is between the chair and the monitor. Wink

I don't buy games where the developer makes you call mommy each and every time to play.

CD-checks are also on this list.

A Unique CD-Key is fine. Beyond that is crap.

You say it as if Steam was a good thing. Let's suppose tomorrow Steam decides that all unofficial mods are offlimits? Click.
Or, let's suppose Steam decides that you're not licensed to play the game after HL3 comes out? Click.
Or maybe Steam decides to make a $10/month payment to use the online servers, making those who don't pay, disabled. Click.

The point is simple - Steam is like DRM for games, it can disable features at will of developer: YOU will no longer be the one selecting which strings you want pulled. The 'next generation' may very well be the bastard child of Steam and MS Janus.

Note: Please don't start the "I welcome our DRM overlords" bullshit. It's old.

Accelleron do you always look at the negative side?

You can look at the negative side for everything, for example someone can go buy them self a $250K Ferrari and the next day the road laws change and they can no longer drive that car on the road.

It's highly unlikely for the road laws to do this as is the negatives you said about steam Wink

Counter-Strike: Source Update Released
January 17, 2005, 3:12 pm · Alfred Reynolds
A Counter-Strike: Source update is available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Counter-Strike: Source

* Added Counter-Strike bots. For a more detailed description, click here
* Added new bomb defusal map de_tides
* Updated version of de_cbble to allow bots to navigate ladders
* Updated version of cs_office. Fixes minor issue with projector
* Updated version of de_dust2 to allow 40 players
* Optimization to the way that dynamic props are checked. On higher end CPUs, this can result in more than a 5% total frame rate increase
* Fixed bug where players would get twice the normal money at the start of a round
* Weapon models are now checked at startup to make sure they are within limits for size
* Fixed a bug that would allow a player to throw two flashbangs at once
* Added “motdfile” cvar, which sets the filename for the message of the day on the server
* Fixed logic that will automatically kick players for killing hostage or being idle for a long time

good map Very Happy! bots aren't too bad either

Someone knows how can I check login history in Steam?
I received a mail that someone has tried logging in from a different location. Is there a way of getting their IP or something?

Hopefully he/she/they didn't hacked your email too. Gmail has a good feature if you import your phone number. Like Steamguard, but with 4 digits code sent on your phone.

I'm using a bulgarian mail, and my password is different, so I guess it's safe. Just to be sure, I changed my steam password.

Edit: just checked my mail history, and I have tons of failed login attempts from 2 ips:

120.35.173.124 - china - probably after my wow account
59.58.65.238 - ??? - now this one is interesting, whois doesn't resolve it.. strange

about the china ip, whois gives some interesting information:
remarks: send spam reports and abuse reports
remarks: to abuse@fjdcb.fz.fj.cn

wander if it's a good idea to sent some failed login information that away?

Exactly, then Gmail's login info/attempt should have the "attacker"'s IP logged.

Get your wallets ready. There's a Steam sale starting tomorrow and running until November 27, according to Tamás Bakó, CEO of the team behind Secret of the Magic Crystals.

The winter sale, Bakó says, will run from December 20 to January 4. Just in case you don't spend enough money on holiday gifts and Steam games this week.

So this is why there is no midweek madness. To bad I have no money this month and I won't be able to spend it on games I will probably never play : (

Have some of you tried Big Picture already ?

What is your thought about it ?
Appart the fact it may crash now and then...

It is clearly a console UI style, but I somehow like it actually.
Also the ambient song is ... peacefull Very Happy

So it is time to find a PC-TV video transmitter and go play my steam games on the couch Cool Face

The video's (from games ofc) make my steam crash Neutral
Makes me wonder what beta was for...
Makes me wonder what beta stands for anyway these days... I bet that companies use beta more for promotion other then real testing these days...

Sure.

The good thing is that we finally can now "officially" add others drives/folder to install our games.
My C: is almost full, now it is time too install all these Fall sales games to my D: and E: ^^

Go to parameter/download "Steam folder" at the bottom,
then add as many location as you want,
you will then be able to choose the install location when you install a new game.
Already installed games can't be moved though, uninstall/reinstall might work.

Smile

Yeah, I use that too.

Another good thing about it, is that you can use it for anything, not just Steam. I move around games from Origin or the simple isodemo installations off and on the SSD, when needed.
