Is there anyway of getting a new key or will he have to buy a new key?? if so where the best place to get a new Windows7 Key cheap?

Thanks

Same thing happen to my sticker. I contacted the manufactuer, Lenovo in this case, they said I'm out luck LOL. Luckily I have hidden partition so I just pressed Recovery Key and I restore it to condition as it came and then retrieved the cdkey.

But yea, that had Home Premium, I installed Ultimate version right away anyway

I used the daz loader option in the end... New discs would cost £38 and the drive is completely dead so cant use the inbuilt restore partition or do anything with it

You don't need to use a loader, just install the correct certificate and product key that matches the manufacturer of the laptop. SLIC

How do I do this??

I tried using ABR to recover the key which it did but it couldnt create the other file that was needed (I think because the original hard drive was dead)??

thanks

I have a Lenovo (and never lost windows key). However, I installed ultimate using Daz loader anyway and the laptop would not boot up (missing drivers, etc). What a mess! I called Lenovo and they said I had to ship laptop back. Anyway, I did the restore thing by pressing recovery key and got back windows premium. That recovery partition they put on lenovos is awesome.

I think all laptops come with recovery partitions or at least all Windows 7 ones at least anyway.. Wink

Its just this one I couldn't use due to hard drive failure Smile

You shouldn't ever need that key. The activation for Windows should be stored in your BIOS. All you need to do is install the certificate and OEM key (the same keys that Daz loader will use) and windows will be fully legit. I had a look over at the MDL forums for the topic containing certificates and keys but I think it has gone Confused

Edit: I suppose the only benefits of not using Daz's loader is that you will shave, maybe a second off booting up time. I doubt MS will bother trying to remove it any more. Personally I prefer to use the cert and key on it's own, it's just cleaner.
