His lines may be crap for a large part, the voice acting and animations are exceptionally well done
I'm actually quite digging the game. I'm hoping that soon someone will figure out how to mod it without Uplay interfering, because the constant markers, reminders, popups and all that are really fucking annoying. Other than that though, well ahead of FC2 on every front. Lots of shit to do, the wildlife interfering is highly amusing (both to let a tiger loose on some pirates or to get jumped by one), it adds a lot to the atmosphere. The vehicles are pretty well done, guns at least handle more interestingly than in CoD 39, MoH 7 or any of the other generic shooters out there. Closer to old CoD or the BF games although I'd love to see the guns produce quite a bit more kick. I've spent like 3 hours in the game now, not done anything beyond the outpost tutorial mission. I only drove around doing optional missions and had quite a bit of fun a bit further north (see the spoiler).
Graphically I'm not *as* impressed. It certainly looks good, but it does still come with that Next-Gen Sauce™. Maybe with JB's tinkering above we'll be able to tweak most of it out, certainly looks promising. The SSAO implementation is also horrible, more often than not it produces intermittent shadows for me, unless I keep it on HDAO; also turned PostFX down to medium to get rid of some of the vaseline and motion blur. As a bonus to these two changes the game now runs at 60 FPS, but even at 45 FPS it wasn't CoD-jerky. It was not as smooth as Crysis felt at 45 FPS "back then" but it wasn't exactly jerky either. Sometimes I'd get a bit of microstuttering, but overall it was fine.
The audio is probably the best part; that's something FC2 was also good at. Directional audio is absolutely spot on, I can tell exactly where sounds are coming from. Like I said above, for the most part the voice acting is also very well done (your own character is the worst of them really ), just a shame that the actual lines are pretty darn cheesy. Vehicles sound good, guns are a little on the weak side. But then there's the jungle sounds (and sound of a crocodile snapping at your face or a tiger coming to teabag you ) to make up for that. The music also gets louder and more dramatic when you're being chased and such, which is not new but we don't actually get a lot anymore.
The biggest problem I had? The game freezing during a trial, most likely due to Uplay being shit
Now if we can just get rid of all the ridiculous popups...
Spoiler for the north bit.
Spoiler: | So just northeast of that first outpost you have that first race, and just north of that is a little village where that race in fact ends, right?
Well, that crater is home to a lake and a relic on both sides. One requires some climbing. The other is in a bit of a cave system and on the other end of that (leads north) there's a few stranded ships. I spent a fair bit of time "cleaning out" the pirates there.
This whole area, from the crater to that beach is very well done. Looks great and I had quite a lot of fun with DEM BASTARDS |
@ Tydirium: what? FC hard survival adventure? You must've played a different game
Up to "those things" it was a mighty fine game, but hard survival adventure? Hell no.

Anyone else get overly shiny blood? Like after you kill someone, the blood splattered on the ground turns partially white? It doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally. It's definitely not lighting effects, because it looks almost pixelated. It only happens to blood.
Other than that, I haven't noticed any other graphical glitches.

@JB I just want to disable SSAO, bloom and DOF. Is that doable? And if I do that and stop tinkering with the tweaks, will they still reset? I understand that it's random, but if you do what you want and then just play, shouldn't it be fine?

Had this once when I killed a deer. The blood looked very weird. It was only the one time though.

Yeah most of this can be done.
I might not be very good at explaining but it's pretty easy.
http://s19.postimage.org/bmac9zg9v/test.png
That's how my file looks, part of it at least.
Code: |
<GamerProfile>
<SoundProfile MusicEnabled="1" MasterVolume="100" MicEnabled="0" IncomingVoiceEnabled="0" Language="english" />
<RenderProfile MSAALevel="2" AlphaToCoverage="2" SSAOLevel="6" SDSM="0" ResolutionX="1920" ResolutionY="1200" Quality="custom" QualityEditor="editor_ps3" Fullscreen="1" Borderless="0" UseD3D11="1" D3D11MultithreadedRendering="1" WidescreenLetterbox="0" UseWidescreenFOV="1" FOVScaleFactor="1.095" EnableSubResolution="0" SubResolutionX="1920" SubResolutionY="1200" VSync="0" RefreshRate="0" DisableMip0Loading="0" GPUMaxBufferedFrames="1" ShowFPS="0" Brightness="1" Contrast="1" GammaRamp="1" AllowAsynchShaderLoading="1" MaxFPS="120">
<CustomQuality>
<quality ResolutionX="1920" ResolutionY="1200" EnvironmentQuality="high" AntiPortalQuality="default" PortalQuality="high" PostFxQuality="ultrahigh" TextureQuality="high" TextureResolutionQuality="high" WaterQuality="veryhigh" DepthPassQuality="high" VegetationQuality="veryhigh" TerrainQuality="high" GeometryQuality="ultrahigh" AmbientQuality="high" DeferredAmbientQuality="high" ShadowQuality="ultrahigh" EditorQuality="" Hdr="1" HdrFP32="1" ReflectionHdr="1" EnableVertexBinding="1" id="custom" />
</CustomQuality>
<Post>
<quality GameDepthOfField="0" CinematicDepthOfField="0" MotionBlur="1" SSAO="1" FXAALevel="0" id="ultrahigh" />
</Post>
|
Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Far Cry 3
Open GamerProfile.xml
Find a section under <renderprofile>, I use <customquality>
Make some room there with the enter key and insert the commands for [post] the above code example shows or like this.
<Post>
<quality GameDepthOfField="0" CinematicDepthOfField="0" MotionBlur="0" SSAO="0" FXAALevel="0" id="ultrahigh" />
</Post>
You will disable Depth of Field, Cinematic Depth of Field, Motion Blur, SSAO and FXAA (You can keep it if you want, I disabled it as the in-game MSAA+AlphaToCoverageAA works good enough.)
Save the file and start the game (Make a backup of the file if needed.) and when you are in the actual game you should notice that the depth of field effect isn't visible in the distant terrain and motion blur plus SSAO should be off as well.
Let me know if something is unclear and I'll try to explain it better.
( also I need to check for a bloom command.)
EDIT: Bloom
Bloom="0"
example:
<RenderProfile MSAALevel="2" AlphaToCoverage="2"
<RenderProfile Bloom="0" MSAALevel="2" AlphaToCoverage="2"
(I usually add it at the end of that string but you can add it anywhere.)
(Write protecting the file will work if you are not going to change any other options, file will reset to it's default if something is incorrect and it will remove the added commands if it's saved while playing even if everything is correct, it's a bit random so I had to use write protect on it unfortunately.)

That's a good tip, I was searching for an option to disable that blur effect. This must be the only game in which I get uncomfortable looking left and right becasue of that effect. Are any more effects lost by putting postFX it on medium?
Was only Vaas done with that new motion capture thing? I like what they've done, certainly a big leap in facial animation, but there seems to be a huge difference between Vaas and the other characters. The others look much less alive. Or it might be the actor doing a damn fine job of course.

You can even put post fx option on low. The loss of image effects is minor compared to the gain of fps.

Holy shit Ubisoft is terrible. Not one word outed to the community regarding the server issue. Not a single word. The very least they can do if the monkeys working on dealing with this don't know how long it will take is to reassure us that the issue does not like with us.

Ok GUYS bear with me as ill try and explain WHAT has happened to me and my mate
1. I have played SP all day connected to the servers etc etc NP at all
2. My mate that i have known for years CANNOT connect to server etc etc we tried everything Firewalls port forwarding etc etc No DICE
So i asked if i could have his Account details to try on my end. And guess what?
"Can not connect to FarCry 3 Server"
So its ACCOUNT specific..
I reentered my details and i had NO problems connecting at all.
So there you have it. A WHOLE afternoon trying to trouble shoot why my mate could not connect
I know this is NOT going to help anyone connect to the server BUT it gives insight as to why this is happening.
Btw i redid this 3 times on his account with the EXACT same result every time

Only half of FarCry 1 was good. The rest of the game was random as hell. It was definitely one of the biggest random game changing twists Ive experienced in the past few years. What the hell were they thinking

well i dont consider farcry 1 as part of the current farcry series.
for me farcry 1 belongs to the crysis series (after all they had similiar gameplay, atmosphere and were developed by crytek)
ubisoft games farcry 2 and 3 are a separate series imo.
i never understood why they didnt create a new ip, as i was surprised to see that farcry 2 didnt have anything to do with 1 when i first played it.
sure, ips change developers and publishers sometimes, but mostly they retain alot of the original game´s charm, for example max payne and halo - the developer change didnt really do much harm.

Anyone bought a Russian CD-KEY and was able to change the game language to English?
On cddiski.ru support page they say that the game is Russian only!
Any instructions?
