The new UI is ugly and distracting. I'll replay the game with the BGT mod instead.

Lol I don't know how the fuck anyone can say that shit is better than TUTU with the widescreen mod.
And the graphics menu is hilarious.

The game looks good enough for me. The interface is way better than the prototype that GOG sells.
I agree that they should have done more to justify the 20$ they ask.
But and in this state it is better than GOGs version by far.

I think the best part of it is that you can just start it up and it works without mods and tutu etc. I haven't seen anything I would call an actual enhancement though, and some things that are the opposite, like no escape key, alt f4, no quick save, etc.
I got a big lol out of the graphics option though

Quicksave is under "Q", quickload under "L"
Have you seen the wonderful, wonderful journal? Compare it with the originals. And do you really use alt+f4 that often?

There's even 2 ways to quicksave : on the left side of the screen, on top of the ? (help) icon there's an icon that is an open book/journal with an arrow pointing inside it.
That's a Quicksave button.
It's not the first time someone doesn't recognize there's quicksave in this thread tho, so maybe they should talk about it somewhere. I'm not entirely sure where outside of the tutorial, tho.
(Normally a loading screen would be the perfect place for a tip like that, but those don't exist anymore)

Game doesn't launch. It gives me an OpenAL error, and the sound is all fucked up...

Yeah, it is.
What I need now is a way of rescaling the UI. Should be achevable, it's not hard-coded anymore ( so there will be skins for it...I hope )

Yeah it's incredibly basic.
This is how the game looks in 1080p (windowed otherwise I couldn't take screens)
It's pretty ugly and stretched .. |
You've got the game zoomed there. Otherwise its same thing as regular BG1 on higher resolutions. Only thing that does look blurry are the new locations. Tutorial/Black Pits and probably the rest also, but I've still to find them in normal game.
Game is still BG1, couple of bugs fixed, couple of bugs added. Black Pits is two area battlefield. Nothing more, still fun, but It would be really hard for me to recommend this game to anyone that already played it to death at this moment. I may change my mind about that when I replayed it completely. |
My bad, didn't even know that it had some zoom enabled by default, go figure. Menus are still very low-res too though, as well as the HUD/dialogues.
Would be nice to see some comparisons in 1080p just out of curiosity, the last time that I played the original game I still had a 17" monitor (and it looked pretty good there).

Big World Mod + Wide Screen Mod.
More BG goodness than you could shake a stick at.
If they could have actually redone all the assets. I know they couldn't and they did what they could. . . but man. And at $20.00?

They should have redone all the character models/dolls, animations and all the spells.

We already told you: Big World Project,
http://www.shsforums.net/
And here's the latest BWP setup:
http://kerzenburg.baldurs-gate.eu/downloads.php?id=2
It's entirely idiot-proof, downloads everything you want, has a list of mods (recomended, expert, etc). Just pick your poison, sit back and relax. Unless it bugs out, then panic.

Big World Project is a system for creating a megamodded version of Baldurs Gate, not a mod in itself. It has BGT as a component if you want to combine BG1 with BG2 (you don't have to), the widescreen mod and a way for installing a hell of a lot good mods, minimods, tweaks, changes...basicaly EVERYTHING that was ever created for both games.
Big World Setup is a graphic UI +mod downloader + mod chooser + several other things for the Big World Project. You'll get the hang of things. I've been using it since it's less stable beginnings...and slower PC. Now it's ultra fast, but imagine an 9 hour mega (26 GB in total) installation that encounters an error at the end and you have to start from scratch . Now it's maybe half an hour on an SSD or Raid 0 volume, so no biggie.
Doesn't change the fact that the old version of infinity is still, as Oster said, built on souls and tears of the programmers (as is the Fallout engine) . I really want to know what the modders can do with the updated one.

I must say I'm having a lot of fun with Black Pits. At first look all it contains are boring repetitive battles on one screen. On second look its just that without boring and repetitive part.
It is really highly simplistic. They throw you into a pit, you battle enemies, then you buy equipment, level up and return into the pit. What's fun is that battles are awesome. AI is hard, diverse and challenging and really shows how wonderful old infinity engine really is. The one in Dragon Age is ages behind the one here in its tactical and strategic possibilities.
Its also a great tool for testing different builds as you level up fast and get to play with dualclasses, multiclasses, kits and various weapon combinations of six characters that you handcarve from start.

From memory, with TUTU you install BG1 and BG2 normally, then run TUTU and it creates a new (3rd) folder for the TUTU-ised BG1. When that's finished you can uninstall the original BG1. It doesn't combine them together into one install. It should all be explained on the website.
