Being mainly a PC gamer, and therefore spending most of my time in the PC Arena sub-forum, I've come to notice that the sheer amount of new users around major titles releases are just absurd. I know, no one is born educated, but it seems that most of them are nothing but noobs with no intent of learning, sharing or helping fellow members, and again, it seems they're just looking for easy answers regarding those high-profile games (cracks, where to find them and how to make them work). And when they get those answers they'll leave until the next game comes out.
Now, I don't know what's the direction the owners and / or administrators are taking or want to take the Hump to, nor it's my business after all, but if turning the forum indexable to search engines was a move to make it more easy to find, therefore bringing in more members, which in turn creates more revenue trough advertisement and fellow NFOrce Entertainment, I fully understand the need for making enlisting anything but easy and effortless.
But, if revenue is not the final objective, or if it is, but has nothing to due with the said above, why not turning the whole forum invite only? And if thats too much of a drastic measure, why not making at least The Gaming Arena only accessible for those with a certain post count? It would keep most of the wild weed out, and it would make the new members contribute first, before having access to it. Although, I still believe the invite only may be the safest bet.
Or maybe, block access to new members before they introduce themselves and get approved. That way, if a new member introduced themselves in a trollish way, they wouldn't get approved. Maybe make them besides introducing themselves, clearly state that they have read the rules and will abide by them. I believe it would surely detract those one-posters crack askers from popping here and there, no?
Anyway, I'm not trying to play moderator / administrator or anything, but maybe making some members (wink, wink) a special kind of forum helpers, that could oversee the above said introductions and maybe keep and eye over the new users, could be a good move. They wouldn't have the power the moderators have of course, but just enough to get things running concerning what was stated before.
Well, I think that's it. Sorry for the long statement, and if this doesn't go anywhere (which is honestly what I expect)... at least I tried I guess.
Oh, and can we get rid of the Google indexing? If it doesn't conflict with the business of course.
The poll will run for 31 days.
Spoiler: | I forgot to say that everybody that votes Nay! is a noob looking for cracks, and that couldn't care less about being part of a community. |

Although I admit the one-time crack askers are a bit annoying, I wouldn't say we should restrict access to PC Games area. Exactly as Neon said, it brings plenty of new blood here. Hell, if it wasn't for that section, I wouldn't have started posting here.
Games' threads have always been like that for a few days prior to any major release. Hype gets sky-high, people are getting bored waiting, and topics are becoming a complete mess in result. (I'm not talking about the regular next-gen stuff trolling atm.)
After some time, when the atmosphere finally calms down, things go back to normal.

I get your point, I really do (especially after having browsed the FC3 thread ), but I agree with Raccoon.
It's always been like this, when AAA games get released a huge amount of people magically come and ask for their cracks, get warned/banned, lulz ensues and the show goes on.. it's like a tradition.
Only a small percentage of them stay and actively participate when the storm has passed, so it's not a problem after all. Plus it's not that we've got thousands of members, we're a relatively 'minor' community..and young healthy inexperienced bodies are always needed.

The life of a forum like this is dependent of fresh blood, the sooner people become too elitist and start censoring, banning on a mass scale or create rigorous ways of joining, the forum is starting to die.
Obviously I dislike spam posts and annoying firsttimers that shit up some sections with useless drivel, but I know if we stopped them, then we would also stop quality posters from coming here. We just have to rely on the fact that "shit posters" will always be a part of any forum, and with active (and proper) moderation it will work out just fine.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

But, that's not gonna happen, so...

How my view has changed.
Now I feel we are too little of a community nowadays. Always the same people posting. Not that I don't like the people here, but variety is always a good thing.

Make it invite-only and you take away a good part of the fun.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I never liked invite only forums since if a forum thinks it's that special, it's not worth registering.

Hahaha, yeah I laughed when I saw this thread. I mean, I have been member here a pretty long time ( spun[k] before ) and I think this kind of thread comes once every year or something.
I have stopped posting and mostly visits once every few weeks to check the threads, and I would say that this forum is already really small if you look at the common posters in most threads, so I dont see how shutting out new people would benefit this place at all - in its current state. But since I'm not a regular here any longer, my opinion really isnt that important. Just had to post since this thread made me laugh
Merry Christmas Nfohump!

I'd love new members and diversity, but we shouldn't become popular. That's why I'd like to see the forum dropped from search engines, but the registration open.
