The platforming mechanics are dated (eg it takes a lot of time to strafe your character exactly where you want and walk right to the edge of the platform you want to jump off) but if you get used to them the gameplay is very good.

Truth being told, the graphics might be dated. But the gameplay it's not. It requires timing, quick-thinking, intelligence to solve the tons of puzzle. Imagine this as the smart grandpa of the POP series in terms of gameplay mechanics (only the reverse time thing is missing from TR).

I wouldn't call that dated. It just requires actual timing and positioning rather than "sort of being somewhat close-ish to the edge before you press the button for awesome".

PoP series is older than TR.

Oh no, but I agree with you, you see! The dated/clumsy part is how you get close to edge, not the concept of calculating and timing it exactly right. I love that the jumps are not automatic, but it's somewhat frustrating to line up your character exactly how you want her. Maybe it's a matter of not ideal controls.

More a matter of just getting used to it. Especially without mouse controls you lose a bit of accuracy, but once you do get used to it...

Sure. I grew up with those games Tomb Raider 1 was a wonderful puzzle of "here are all the pieces, all we can promise you is that they DO fit together, now it's your task to find out how they connect and how does your character travel through this maze to connect them". Pure magic. But I always felt the movement controls and NO camera controls (as you said no mouse control) were an unnecessary obstacle.

True, but I still prefer it over Uncharted for example, where even when swinging on a pole you don't need to time your jump off of it.

I was talking about the Ubi POP Sands of Time series, so no.
The original PoP was a different affair. Ubi's series it's another. Ubi series date since 2003, the original POP series covers 1989-1999.
The first Tomb Raider dates 1996...
So, I'm correct. The only thing is that I didn't mentioned which PoP series i was talking about.

The Sands of Time was designed by the same guy, who designed the 1989 PoP.
You were talking about game mechanics in TR and PoP (positioning and timing your movement). The 1989 PoP was all about positioning and timing. Saying that TR is grandpa of PoP in terms of mechanics is inaccurate.

TR ... I liked most TR games to be honest. And call me crazy, but I think Crystal Dynamics have done a lot of things right. I look forward to this game honestly.

You know I love CD, mate. I've also been waiting for this for quite a while and I still do, but with each bit they reveal from it, I get more and more disappointed. No swimming, a lot of scripted sequences, QTEs and other crap like that. I've had enough of that crap in games and I just can't stand some things in games anymore.

Seriously guys, that's what this sounds like to me. From the tough character that she was in the previous series, they turned he into a moaning bitch. Yes, I understand it's a prequel/reboot, but this Lara is a completely different character. I wonder how these board meetings go... "We need to make her moan more, because that would bring more horny console kids."

I personally wouldn't be too worried about the character cause if the writers do it properly they can have her become the true Lara Croft (whatever that is) right in time. The gameplay shown so far is what really got me sceptical.
