That's funny, because just a few years ago Portuguese prisons were rated as the worst in Europe. Now it's Turkey, but I don't see Portugal having fixed their system THAT much
*shrug* Dunno about that, maybe humane was the wrong word to use to describe a prison. Just that we don´t hear much about poor treatment of prisoners here besides some overpopulation issues and the trouble those lead to.
I don´t doubt they are in a bad place mentally, more than physically, being away from their families and friends in a foreign country.
But Greece being a country with a the conflict history that they have, i don´t doubt they take surveillance of their military installations, even if for a videogame, very seriously. Dunno how easily they will get out of this one.
More than two months after a couple of developers from Czech studio Bohemia Interactive (ArmA) were arrested over espionage suspicions, the pair has had an appeal against the charges denied.
Bohemia's Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar were originally taken in after allegedly capturing video and photos of a military installation in Greece for an upcoming ArmA game.
According to local news sites, and as translated by Eurogamer, Buchta and Pezlar have now been denied bail and will be tried before a court in Greece. They could face up to 20 years in prison.
In the meantime, the families of the pair have spoken out, stating that the conditions they are being subjected to have been abysmal.
They're in a cell with over 25 people, they sleep on the ground," Buchta's father Miloslav stated. "They have food twice a day.
His mother added, "Our boys no longer tell us on the phone that it's alright, that they're handling it. After the court's decision we only hear from them something that no parent ever wants to hear: Mom, dad, please save us."
Well, shit got quite serious for them it seems.
Don't know how much it will help, but Bohemia also made this petition, so sign if you want: http://www.helpivanmartin.org/
Even though they practically broke the law, now the whole case is another disgrace for this ridiculous and treasonable government of my country.Release them already. It's more than obvious that the Czech's didn't have any spy intention.
I think there is less ridicule in this item then Bohemia wants us to believe... Just look a little further then their claims that their colleagues were "just on a holiday":
How often do you go on a holiday with a colleague to an island which so happens to be your project at work? Bohemia was warned about taking photo's of military installations... Maybe they had to go on a "holiday" to achieve their goals? Although I don't support the way these guys are treated in jail, keep in mind that we live in a world where terrorists used flight simulator to practice flying into the twin towers... Would you want a game sim to be modelling an island where you have a military installation?

As I am a part of the justice system here in Greece, I assure you that they are completely safe and under good conditions in the jail (special cell/room for them).
I still don't understand why Bohemia insisted that their employees were on vacation. They should have told the greek authorities about the game and "confess" that was a mistake by them that they didn't ask for a special permit to just see the bases to get general ideas for their next game installment.
My opinion though is what I wrote earlier above and that's what matters now.

Well, knowing Greece is part of the EU, i'm sure it's not so bad as they say... Maybe another tactic to get people to Bohemia's cause... I just hope your government releases a little more information about the case, so that people can form their own opinion.
Never argue with a fool, he will only drag you down and beat you on experience...
from what i know gamemap is almost done so no need to make something for game. Limnos were reccomended to them from some fan for greece. (BTW: those object they accidentaly shot are easily foundable on google maps)Problem might be Virtual Battlespace for US Army more than Arma 3. Biggest problem is judge strike in greece. And they dont have own cell - they sleep on the ground with 20 other people around
Quote:
“They took photographs and videos in public areas, as countless tourists arriving to enjoy the beauty and hospitality of Greece may well do. These included a short video as they drove through the main road passing around the international airport, where in one short part of the video off in the distance some hangars and other buildings of the complex can be seen.
“It’s very likely that many tourists may have pictures similar to those taken by Ivan and Martin in their own family albums, without being aware that they put themselves or their families at risk.”
“The in-game Limnos is close to completion, and it’s far from an identical replication of the real place. It was heavily modified to fit the game’s backstory, a purely fictional 2035 setting. It was rescaled to only 75 per cent of the real island, and it does not attempt to display any real world military installations situated on the island.”

Well, the case it's simple and clear: They were caught taking pictures outside the military base, which is forbidden. Other than that, imo this one have gone too far. They broke the law but they are not spies for sure. Justice must be quick and flexible.
The two Czechs who have photographed military objects on the Greek island of Lemnos in September are still in jail awaiting trial. Radiožurnál’s special corresponded managed to have a look at their court file which indicates that the Greek authorities knew of their arrival beforehand.
The file according to our correspondent refutes many theories that have surfaces soon after the arrest of the two men. For example, according to the list of confiscated items the Czechs only had normally obtainable electronics with them: computers, cameras and video cameras. They had no night vision devices as Greek media speculated after their arrest.
The police has a witness whose statement can be interpreted in many different ways. The file also contains around 14 photos that have been taken from a moving car. There also are several documents that are not signed but according to our correspondent they could be from the intelligence service.
These documents indicate that the authorities knew about both men prior to their arrival into the country. They had information about when they will arrive, when their flight leaves and where they plan to go.
The pair was visited today by their fathers. They brought them warm clothes and personal items. The situation is prolonged by slow Greek judicial process further hindered by series of strikes.
Greek media is convinced the two Czechs are guilty. They claim they were performing espionage for Turkey.

Source?
Does this article states that they had special permission?
As I said the 2 men didn't refuse that they were taking pictures of the base.Yes they are guilty but they are not spies. The trial will take place soon and most propably the judges decision will be: "6+ months in jail under suspesion".Case closed.

14 accidental frames from a many minute video which show objects in the distance in far less detail than can be easily seen on Youtube (online for years, nobody arrested BTW).
Assuming the frame rate of the video they're taking was 23fps that means they accidentally shot the offending object for approximately half a second, that's something which deserves being locked up under harsh conditions for three months? That's something that deserves one of the guys being away from his 2 year old child (missing her birthday btw) and deserves to miss the imminent birth of his 2nd child?
They are not guilty of anything other than being caught up in a politically motivated attempt to get some global press coverage by a bunch of judges who've had their salaries cut by 60% because the country has been run to shit, they're innocent pawns.
